So what will you do if the oil runs out?
Re: So what will you do if the oil runs out?
I agree with the-gnole. This is the Age of Entitlement and many people are selfish, ignorant, arrogant, aggressive and have no idea how to stop going down the slippery slope. This country has too many people for the natural resources it has as has the rest of the world. 7 billion people is not something to be celebrated but feared. We have just over 40 years of oil left and nobody is really doing that much to stop using it. On top of that 'water stress' is going to kick in soon and whilst you can replace oil with wind etc, water is just water and although it recycles itself we cannot find anymore of it. The simple answer - be prepared, teach a select few who matter to you...and be prepared to kill

You think people weren't selfish, ignorant, arrogant, and aggressive before? Human nature never changes, we've always been pure utter pains in the ass!
Re: So what will you do if the oil runs out?
Not all of the people all of the time thats why I said 'many'. As individuals we change to match our circumstances. We also change in line with training and education. The people on this forum are here to help and be helped and have the foresight to know that they can't see the future. We're not all selfish, ignorant, arrogant, and aggressive....but if circumstances change and we here think they will then the protectionist stance will takeover and for example we will become more aggressive....but not without hope.

I do agree with this, but also, i want to find positives too.RichardR1948 wrote:I agree with the-gnole. Maybe this time is more about learning new skills and passing them on rather then being a blacked up ninja by tea time.

Exactly, but as well as learning and passing on why not just all learn together.Maybe this time is more about learning new skills and passing them on
Mines more DPM, and has been for thirty+ years The black gear I use when delivering "Milk tray" covertlyrather then being a blacked up ninja by tea time.

But doesn't this all connect to
1) what are you preparing for
2) how likely is it to happen
3) when is it likely to happen and what makes you think that it will happen then?
4) what if you are wrong?
5) if it doesn't happen, will your "preps" be useful for some other eventuality and if so what?
I don't think that "it" (whatever "it" is) will happen imminently, but there may be many minor issues that I will need to overcome in the meantime. Thus I am worrying less about the macro scenarios and more on the shorter term higher probability eventualities.
As far as how will I cope if all the oil, and all the products of oil usage, and all the waste from oil usage are gone (no rubbish or components, not even drain pipes to scavenge), that is not going to happen in the next 200 years.
Fantasy scenarios are interesting to think about, but do they distract us away from practical thinking?
If oil will run out in 40 years, fine. I may not be here to worry about it.
If we can lay down a more positive culture, then maybe that thinking will carry on into the future reducing the likelihood of murder and cannibalization.
