With diesel I use one of those drill powered pumps, that saves having to lift it up to pour.TomW wrote:Even with a 4x4 you've still got to move it to the vehicle and lift it in. Then when you want to use it you have to lift it to.pour it in the filler. None of which is impossible, just easier with a smaller quantity

Not sure I get the emphasis on transport - I would guess the roads will quickly become unusable, blocked , monitored or dangerous. If you have wheels with fuel & others don't surely you become a prime target depending how much SHTF. Our evacuation plan agreed with the embassy in prep for a near overseas SHFT was walk several days to the border as the roads were assumed to be "closed". I appreciate its good to prepp for all scenarios and maybe wheels with additional fuel will get you out of a tight corner ,but it doesn't seem to sit easy with the grey man principle.
Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
that depends on the event, but you can assume that Motorways will be closed or for "military use" only, maybe some main A roads as well, i intend to use back county roads and lanes in my area, many of which i know like the back of my hand, cos i use them all the time anyway.bhakta wrote:Not sure I get the emphasis on transport - I would guess the roads will quickly become unusable, blocked , monitored or dangerous. Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
Yeah, I am looking currently around the surrounding area for multiple routes which are least likely to be closed off. Any major arteries, even if they are b roads could be closed off so an assessment of how you would expect them to limit travel from hubs like towns and cities will be essential in planning good evac routes.
Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
I only expect to use my vehicle for three hours 'post event' to get to my BOL but even that may need some fuel reserve depending on how full my tank is at 'the time'.
Even then Ill require enough fuel for an emergency relocate in case things go wrong at my location ....
I rekon the roads will be open for at least a few hour hours before deadlock.
The unpreppered minions will be flocking to supermarkets and banks while I hit the motorway.
At least that my hope.

Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
I certainly expect a delay between any announcements and the general sheeple getting their acts together. Police and potentially military will be deployed to protect key resources and will aim to limit movement on major transits but that will take a few hours to mobilise at least.
Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
Will the roads be any safer or less monitored on foot? I think some roads would become impassable due to broken down or abandoned vehicles but I doubt they will all be unusable. I'd rather plan to drive and accept the possibility of having to hoof it rather than end up walking along clear, quiet roads kicking myself for not having a bit more fuel on hand.
But that's just me, YOU should prep for what YOU think is likely

Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
Spot on there Tom, most of the scenarios I read about (not only on here) are often the work of an over active imagination, only some of the more balanced scenarios will ever likely happen in our lifetimes. But it is an interesting "hobby" for a great deal of interesting banterBut that's just me, YOU should prep for what YOU think is likely
Re: What are your Immediate actions on......?
Absolutly agree
The most likely senario is ... well... nothing ...however it all just becomes a list of risk assesment after that.
How likely is an event on a scale of one to five. How serious will that event be on a scale of one to five multiply them together and you get a number between 1 and 25
1 is dont worry
25 is kiss your @ss goodbye
