Mine too or druids, witches, or just pagan ( not wiccan ) but perhaps Wiccan, a friend told me that they earned the name from lying on their sides completely wiped out on heroin and because they lost weight from not eating much, their bony bits tended to develop sores, worse effected was the hips....and yes what we call hippies nowadays tend to be more switched on than tuned in, turned off, and dropped out, even if they are partial to mead and weed now and again
So would that be Glastonbury or Totnes?
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Glastonbury..........lived there for 10 years after I left Ernesettle, before moving to North Devon. although we do frequent Totnes now and again(Friday Market).
Back on topic, I was having a vaguely prep-related conversation with the next-door-but-one neighbour, a big lad, body-building motorcyclist with a young daughter. I wanted to sound him out slightly to see what his thinking was. Well, I found out "If it all does go pear-shaped mate, first thing I'm going to do, I'm going to get myself a JCB and a gun!"
Well, I kind of changed the subject after that. So there are definitely people out there whose first thought post-SHTF will be "Who can I take it off of?"
When out there is next door but one it's a worry, but then again what people say and what they actually do can differ tremendously, when they realize their kids are going to need protecting from nasties too, it may turn out you all muck in and muddle through, keep him at arms length but don't avoid him, that way you have the upper hand, in a city where you don't know your neighbours too well, you shouldn't give away too much, perhaps that's why we Brits bang on about the weather so much and other things which allow friendly interaction without giving too much about yourselves away.

keep him onside he can dig you and him a moat and shoot the bad guys whilst you prep and cook dinner
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong
Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine
I'm under no illusion that if bets are off it will be hell on earth with neighbour fighting neighbour... but I balance that with the thought that it all depends on the scenario impact anyway. WWII saw a great cohesion. Clumps of community formed to support each other and let's not forget the black market appeared just as quickly, this was used by the all classes at the time.... for various purposes.

I quite like what sfcfinchrs has posted. Looking at the topic, I can spot in my neighbourhood right now and with no prior arrangement about six out of twenty households I and my family would be able to "bond" with and feel comfortable in doing so. I genuinely believe these are good people and depending on circumstances I would like to think I'd be able to work with them. One out of twenty is already hostile, another is passive aggressive and the rest are unknown.
It's just a shame that the very nature of the work routine and society today makes meeting people in your own street unusual.
Don't mistake my preaching as an either/or type of argument. The approach I am taking is not suitable for everyone.
I guess what I was attempting to do, was to open up a line of thought that is not often talked about in prepping circles. We can easily forget that we evolved to gather in groups for a reason.
So prep as you need and keep an open mind about how you intend to deal with things when SHTF.
With a luck I will be passing on our preps to my children at a very old age, as a family legacy. If luck does not hold true, then it's time to get busy.
I will be posting more in the near future about the pieces of the solution I have found to our preps.
I don't do politics or religion. Seen to many people die because of these.
I post to contribute so take as you see fit. My way is not the only way.
the trouble with expecting neighbours to band together is that it might not happen-especially in the larger cities, its no longer WW2-the "blitz spirit" dosent exist, most people are only looking out for themselves-what they can get, most people don't even know who their neighbours are, we now have a more intolerant society made up of different religions and cultures, and I wouldn't want to put my survival in the hands of such, where we live is a very mobile population, people are always leaving and new people coming so trying to get to know anyone might be counter productive. there is also the OPSEC problem, if you try to get your neighbours to prep(for whatever event) they then know you have stuff and in an event-for which of course they HAVENT prepped- you will become the "supply depot" and the local "hoarder"(funny isn't it...in a calamity people who have vision are always the ones in the wrong?).
