There is another school of thought that goes, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". Even in ancient times, people enjoyed entertainment, although there was a higher degree of participation. Times have changed and forms of entertainment have changed. You can't turn back the clock, so I think there will be a mix of music/dance, conversation, games and, if any electricity is available, you can't expect people not play films or computer games, even if there is no internet. You won't have to work every minute of the day - people never did. It is true, however, that it is increasingly difficult to prize gadgets out of teenagers' hands and they view it as a punishment to have to help out around the house and garden, but when they do they are completely capable.lonewolf wrote:entertainment is a distraction for idle hands. have you noticed how many children, and adults too, have to be entertained these days(and end up paying through the nose for same), we used to make our own entertainment. makes me wonder how many of these sorts of people will survive(or not)WTSHTF.

I don't see entertainment being high on anyone's list post SHTF(its certainly not high on mine), just surviving and putting food on the table will be enough.

I disagree entertainment is high on my survival list but then I don't expect the zombie apocalypse more a case of snowed in, lose of job, no power more likely problems. As such if we lost our jobs any bills we can reduce we would hence board games no need for elec for tv, internet etc but still have a relaxing time well not if we play monopoly lol. To that point we now have close to 100+ candles mix pillars and single/multi wick jars plus loads of tea lights (thank you work)
Not planning for the end of the world just to survive till normality resumes, while sticking to the scout moto be prepared!
Still considering do I want to survive the end of the world or deck chair on the front lawn with a cold beer?

I don't expect zombies either but anything else is possible

No,no,no what about a rabies virus mutation? I saw a program on TV about just that possibility, which could be where the zombie thing came from, well that and voodoo.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Please no zombies, anything but them!! Just seeing on TV makes me imagine the stench of them
Got 4 litres of tea tree body wash, 2 pots of tea tree balm, 2 small bottles of tea tree oil and 2 packs of tea tree wipes. All the Australian tea tree which is about the best one you can get.
Did you know there are around 110 different types of tea tree plants?

Behind every great man is an even greater woman. She carried you, raised you and made you who you are.

Look back at things like the blitz in WW2, people taking shelter in the underground stations and singing, people on life rafts singing, POW's organising shows etc, entertainment/keeping up your spirits is good for your mental health. My wife is a senior mental health nurse/senior nurse therapist and said to me that my films, games et al are as pretty much as vital long term as food stocks.lonewolf wrote:I don't see entertainment being high on anyone's list post SHTF(its certainly not high on mine), just surviving and putting food on the table will be enough.

I see surviving as no 1, any singing dancing or any other noises will draw the unwanted attention of the feral unwashed.

Your outlook on life sounds rather grim. I suspect you live a rather joyless existence by your comments.lonewolf wrote:I see surviving as no 1, any singing dancing or any other noises will draw the unwanted attention of the feral unwashed.
The Late and Great John Seymour(pioneer of modern self sufficiency) said that, "Life is about more than just a struggle for mere existence."
Cody Lundin the American desert survival expert says, " you should not let the act of preparation consume your life, you need to live it. "
Just like your previous comments about education on another thread, I find your total dismissal of the benefits of entertainment , frankly, unbelievable. And sad.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

If you hear other people singing and dancing, join them with a few bottles of home made wine . . . . . . .
