What Preps are you doing this week

In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

Someone bites someone in a panicky crowd. That becomes the main bit on the news under "Zombie Attack!!!!". Next panicky crowd and everyone is biting everyone else.lonewolf wrote:I don't expect zombies either but anything else is possible
I seem to remember some doves getting their heads bitten off in a rock concert some time ago.
The crowd will follow the crowd, no matter how gross. Individuals think, mobs react.
SHTF around 2017.

Very well said.jansman wrote:Your outlook on life sounds rather grim. I suspect you live a rather joyless existence by your comments.lonewolf wrote:I see surviving as no 1, any singing dancing or any other noises will draw the unwanted attention of the feral unwashed.
The Late and Great John Seymour(pioneer of modern self sufficiency) said that, "Life is about more than just a struggle for mere existence."
Cody Lundin the American desert survival expert says, " you should not let the act of preparation consume your life, you need to live it. "
Just like your previous comments about education on another thread, I find your total dismissal of the benefits of entertainment , frankly, unbelievable. And sad.
'Prepping" may not be the best word to use, perhaps 'awareness' would be more apt overall. Prepping for some is stockpiling food and kit, learning theory after theory, for some its a bit of a trip into fantasy land where they can see themselves as more than what they are in everyday real life and there is nothing wrong with any on that. Keep on smiling, life is to short to be overly focused on doom and gloom speculation and IF (and its a really big IF), the muck truly hit the fan...still keep on smiling...if you don't you'll end up a sad, twisted miserable old bugger pre or post SHTF.

grim is how life immediately after TSHTF will be, I'm a realist. a lot of people "don't get it" and never will.jansman wrote:Your outlook on life sounds rather grim.lonewolf wrote:I see surviving as no 1, any singing dancing or any other noises will draw the unwanted attention of the feral unwashed.
Adapt or Die, there is no middle ground.

stay out of crowds then, like I do.cpslashm wrote:Someone bites someone in a panicky crowd. That becomes the main bit on the news under "Zombie Attack!!!!". Next panicky crowd and everyone is biting everyone else.lonewolf wrote:I don't expect zombies either but anything else is possible

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
I think it was my post about taking time off from prepping and considering getting a PS4 that sparked the last two pages of posts about the need for entertainment and the need for a balanced approach. On a personal note, I feel that my work, rest and play split has been out of balance for the past two months, hence I took a well-deserved weekend off from work and prepping and just enjoyed doing nothing. To be honest, it was a smart idea to postpone splitting timber as I was not in the right frame of mind to be using power tools. When tree-work becomes a chore it's time to stop.
For me prepping is about being more self-sufficient and less reliant on the utility companies. Since we ditched oil and switched to our own source of wood fuel I've estimated we've saved over £2000 so I figured I deserved some retail therapy as a reward, hence the PS4. However, call it common-sense or prepper-sense but I decided to hold-off on the game console and I bought a night vision monocular instead which for the past few nights has been much more entertaining than any computer game, plus I can now budget for the Doulton Rio 2000 filter I need to complete my rainwater to drinking water project. I'd dearly love to upscale this so I can tell SW Water to turn the mains off but I'm nowhere near that yet. There's also a nagging common-sense voice in my head that is repeatedly telling me I need a 200W solar panel before a PS4.
PS4 next month perhaps....

My preps this week are:
1. I'm going to get gun safe.
2. I've got original "Svea" stove.

You won't survive long when you suffer a major mental breakdown or sink into a deep cycle of depression will you. Are you a realist or just crave a truly life changing event as a break from real life? Perhaps some of us are realists and do in fact 'get it' but just choose a more optimistic and healthier approach to life. Are you having a holiday this year? It may cheer you up chap, do you good. 5th July my Welsh love goddess and I of off to Gran Canaria for a well earned break, soak up some rays and drink a little wine, New York in October and New Zealand in the new year... travel is a great tonic:mrgreen:lonewolf wrote:grim is how life immediately after TSHTF will be, I'm a realist. a lot of people "don't get it" and never will.jansman wrote:Your outlook on life sounds rather grim.lonewolf wrote:I see surviving as no 1, any singing dancing or any other noises will draw the unwanted attention of the feral unwashed.
Back on track, prepping wise I'll be making a dipole antenna this week for a new QRP rig I've got coming

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
why would I? just cos I don't think like you? I'm a realist and I know whats coming, too many people on this little rock taking and using up all the resources, that is not sustainable, when the bang comes I will be ready for it, unlike some(lots) of other people. I don't take holidays/I'm on permanent holiday( I prefer "staycations") and I don't waste money on foreign holidays where all one has left are memories, photos, cheap tourist tatt and a bloody great credit card bill.rik_uk3 wrote:
