Once I have discovered a suitable pot, i will pot out the tomatoes. Weeding and providing upright poley things for the beans is the next step.

This week I have made a stainless steel lid to fit over the cheap ally mess tin I bought from a £ shop, just to see how it was and happy it didn't burn out when tried on my household cooker.
I made the lid because I recently found a tiny single burner gas cooker I bought 30-ish years ago (perfect for the BoB). It is a great burner but the size (4 inches across) means that the supply pipe can get hot when cooking and a burn out would render the cooker useless. The lid will cover the pipe and entry port with some of my forge heat resistant mating over the pipe.

I have also been working on a couple of 8 inch blade double edged survival knives for my son and my son-in-law. None of that stainless steel for my blades, just real high carbon fully heat treated.

I had to buy a new 65 Lt BoB from Military 1st. A lesson learned that when something is cheap it is usually because it is rubbish. Thankfully Military first supplied a German military bag that IS fit for purpose and at a very good price. I should have gone there first.

My last but important prep was to introduce my friend Oathsworn to this forum.
The more like minded folk who gather in a single purpose the better we stand to repel those who have not bothered in a number of SHTF scenarios, but I need not tell you prep-wise folk that.

The rest of my weeks prepping will be turned over to thinking about what I need to buy/make or learn.

Now the Winter is a memory, I have been round and replaced all the batteries in the torches, touchlights and smoke alarms. It will save batteries leaking too. Went into town when my shift finished and filled the freezers with all sorts ( mainly fish, which we love), and various tins and packets to fill the gaps on the shelves.
Next task , when I can psyche myself up is to sweep the chimneys. I also have to wait 'til Jan is out, 'cos she freaks out at soot. I clean up well, but she still spots muck! :(

I've been busy with the allotment of late. It's slow old work and quite frustrating at times - this week something has nibbled leaves off my pepper plant and my squashes, and today one of the squashes has been completely dug out by something that then cr@pped on the other one. *sigh*. I must keep reminding myself that this food growing lark is a marathon, not a race...

In other news, the contract for my job is going to expire soon. Luckily I will get put into redeployment so I have to get interviewed for jobs that I apply for. If all else fails, there's a temporary staff register that I can go on. I'm very grateful that I have been able to stash some savings over the last 10 months and get some food in the cupboard just in case.

Now the weather is warm, I guess that its more likely that electric radiators will be cheaper. I only got one in the flat at the moment, which is ok for when the mains goes in the dead of the winter, but getting another one or two wouldn't go amiss.

Very true! I try to shop like that too. Buy fans, air con units when its the end of the summer and any heating stuff (got oil filled radiator from local shop half the price!) As soon as the warm weather arrives. Makes financial sense but you have to plan in advance rather than wait for something to break.

I used to buy coal like that. During Summer it used to be cheaper. Now it is the same price year-round. What a surprise! :D

Maybe because its not taking up shop floor space needed for the next seasons wares, that and greed of course...
