Just back from the big smoke. Had a fabulous time, but the queues! Felt quite vulnerable there - just me and my son. Other family members in other countries. Personal safety was important - I wear a small back-pack-type bag on my front - I'd seen it done before and thought it was a good idea and split all money and cards between our money belts under clothes and our bags - son had small back-pack too. Had no problems of any kind, except turning up whilst the Tour de France was on. It made the taxi driver a bit mad trying to get through the very bottlenecked traffic (only one bridge was open) - it was chaos. A good example of what would happen if there was some kind of mass exodus, I imagine. Have done no preps at all except for those before holiday which involved lots of hi-spec gear for daughter - she seems to be holding up to the heat better than the other girls, probably because she's wearing Rab tops which wick away sweat and dry really quickly, whilst protecting you with a Factor 50? (40 at least, anyway) equivalence. Getting everything back in order and then will have a major assessment of where "I'm at". Hope everyone else who's managing to get away has a fab time.

Thanks Decaff. Looking forward to catching up with what's been going on here whilst I've been away, but in the throes of laundry-another pile to come Thursday and another big pile on Monday. Keeps me out of trouble. Hope no-one's been fighting :). Serious prepping will re-commence shortly :).

I know a family who don't own an iron and climb Munros in shorts and t-shirts (yes, they are well-educated, but foolish :)). I think being able to exist without an iron will give them more of an edge on the iron-owners after the apocalypse. :) At least it will be less of a shock.

Oh my! I remember my nan had a couple of those in her cupboard!! She's probably still got them somewhere too. There goes my excuse for not ironing then

How long does the lemon curd last? I've not managed to find a recipe to last more than a couple of weeks at most.
