My kitchen extinguisher was a disposable type and noticed an hour ago (whilst raiding the fridge!) it expired end-2013. Fire blanket still ok though :D

Minus 10 prepping points for me

Anyone got one of those escape ladders for getting out a first floor window?? I'm very tempted.

read the ratings label on the fire it will tell you what you can use.....

i have a delohngi (spl) in our workshop that i run on propane the shop even swapped over regulators (well cut the butane one off and gave me the propane one to fit myself so i couldnt sue them if it leaked....

this might be a cheaper more storable option

What extinguisher you bought?

ive been chatting to a very nice man yesterday (works fire extinguisher agent)

Apparently Dry powder is been withdrawn from general use due to the Mess it makes costing insurance companies more than the fire damage and only to be used in critical areas / areas of extreme cold.. such as HGV's on the trailers and outside fuel storage areas eg petrol stations.. ..

(powder is extreamly corrosive and gets everywhere effectively writing off electrical equipment with in the cloud settlement area) as well as ruining soft furnishings

and causing health problems (ever used one and you might have noticed you spent the rest of the day on the toilet.... i can vouch for that)

Most foam (afff) are dielectric rated now to 35kv

so save to use at home even on live electrical appliances and the new water fog units are winning lots of accolades and look very attractive indeed especially for home

these look great but they are not cheap to buy although the 1l water looks cheap enough

http://www.safelincs.co.uk/e-series-wat ... nguishers/

and you can use them on Chip pan fires! ((NOTE NEVER USE NORMAL WATER OR AFFF ON A CHIP PAN)))
I'll call Calor tomorrow re the Change of regulator. I like the look of that 4.4kw heater, but would like the option of controlling the temp.

I bought this - http://simplyextinguishers.co.uk/1kg-ho ... isher.html

I'll definitely be looking at those Mist units. Not come across them before and that YouTube vid makes them look impressive. I can certainly see the Powder units becoming obsolete, although not until the Mist ones are more economically viable - big price gap.

I'm going to do my intro course to Archery hopefully soon when the archery club runs its next beginners sessions, another guy I've met is going to lend me his spare recurve bow and arrows so I get practice a bit first.

As winter is coming, I ordered a new smoke alarm and a fire blanket. Incase I do more bioethanol fires and want to maintain protection. I still have the CO detector so thats alright, so after this all i will need is the fire extinguisher itself (next) and...... to actually get everything organised and drill myself (which is the bit that requires most work!)

Been out to get more food for the stash, vegetables, steak pies, dried onions, meatballs in various sauces, tinned curry of various flavours, beans with chorizo and beans with Lincolnshire sausages, chicken in white sauce, steak and kidney puddings, beef stew with dumplings, chicken and veg stew, bag of popping kernals, coffee sachets (Decaff naturally) ;) 5kg sugar, couple of bottles of pectin. OH was giving me raised eyebrow looks and huffing at me.

Need yet more kilner 3ltr clip jars to keep more dry goods in, more jam jars and lids and plastic tubs. Will order when he's at work I think, then he won't know about them till he has to. :?

I wish he would grasp how important this is to me :|

I'm doing the "permanent" preps as well. Salt, sugar, etc - stuff that can be stashed and not thought of again. Very satisfying. I now have several buckets waiting to go out to the garage when the clearing out is finished (a lot more worked than estimated) and shelving is up. Stoves and heaters going out there too. The only raised eyebrow I had the other day was a quizzical one when he bought a pack of wholegrain rice thinking we'd run out and I pulled out a large Tupperware type box, from one of the kitchen corner cupboards, packed to the gills with previously prepped (a stint in the freezer) packets. I had to make sure they were being used in date order, because they don't keep forever. The white rice is the "permanent" prep. We only eat white rice with takeaways (but only because that's the only option :)). I put everything into the freezer wrapped in carrier bags so he doesn't see what's in it. I'm currently still freezing salt. I think he might think I'd gone off the rails if he knew what it was :). Need to do an order of buckets and Mylar bags soon. Dried onions sound very useful. Where do you get those? PS Don't use oxygen removers with sugar - I'm sure you knew that -I only just found out. It's all very cloak 'n dagger, is it not :)?

Car boot sale today and bought a small multiplier reel,a tin of weights for sea fishing ,couple packet of hokki type lures and box of slim jim type lures for £18
The reel turns out to be a Shakespeare atlantis so a decent budget make.it was missing the Shakespeare badge.

And also a cb swr meter, spotlight to plug into your car fag lighter and a old Olympic 2100 spinning reel bundled together for a fiver . :P

Not bad haul off 2 stalls.

Just need a beach caster and some sundries ,then sorted for fishing tackle.

Dried onions - packet of 40g (well over a year for the BB date)
Brand is Great Scot (how pertinent!)
Got mine down Morrisons, surely other supermarkets stock this too?

The same brand do a dried 'country vegetables' packet. I've also bought dried peppers before in a similar vein

Overkill, probably  . 25p/kg Tesco salt on bottom shelf. Always worried a miniscule critter will have decided to hitch a ride. Taking no chances and no prisoners. Doesn't do it any harm, so you'll have to humour me. :)
