the chafing dish fuel arrived this morning .
it took ,i`d say around 7 mins to heat up half a pint of water for a coffee .
these cans last any were between 2 and 6 hours per can and ive found them online for 1.47 per can for a 4 hour can . as a fuel they seem to be good value and safe to use indoors unlike other fuels .
ive also seen a 4kg refill tub for less than 20 quid , need to do the maths on that one to see if its cost effective or just stick to small cans .

I'd exercise extreme care using Brake cleaner...... Many also contain Tetracloroethyline which in the right conditions can liberate hydrogen chloride and Phosgene Gas  always check the MSDS

As i said above lots of the area lost gas when the town flooded......

so with that in mind i got this earlier this year finally got a reasonably priced Induction compatible kettle from aldi about a week ago... (yes we have a electric kettle but one is none and two is one :ugeek:

Took just under 4mins 30 seconds to boil 1l of Yorkshire waters finest tap water :D :geek:

Got it to take camping as well no flame = no fire on a windy day and with a little one running about it (the hot plate) almost touchable immediately after boiling so safer too when with little fingers

Regarding the use of gas the obvious need to store quanties of the stuff did make me wonder if there are legal limits as to what can be stored in the same was as petrol for instance. The large tanks seen at some houses without mains gas would seem the best bet for a larger quanity as if I'm reading and understanding it correctly then there are more involved regulations for portable cylinders . I stand to be corrected if I'm misinterpreting the information but here's a link to gas bottle storage ,
http://www.calor.co.uk/media/wysiwyg/PD ... inders.pdf
I have several gas cylinders , mainly propane , at home stored outside as per regs , but have always wondered about having bright red cylinders almost on show so to speak that might become a target should there be a problem. As it is they're not that easy to spot being hidden behind a shed and overhung by trees but a large stock may be more troublesome. That indeed is probably the achillies heel of the large static tank , holds a lot but most likely to be on the front of the property and served by a 17 ton tanker so someone is bound to know it's there. I suppose that's where coal , and to a extent wood and charcoal have an advantage storage can be as simple as a heap.

2 ring gas stove with grill couple of single gas burners lots of canisters
Small single gas ring, bbq , chimnea, and the old method a straw oven, will take a few hours to cook a Pot of stew
But it works well.
