This is the problem with serious problems! After my visit to casualty last week, I apologised,as I couldn’t see a GP. The nurse practitioner- top bloke! - said that GP visits are as rare as rocking horse sh*t! Also said that dialling 999 is a waste of time, you should put the patient in a car and take them to casualty. He was an army nurse before the NHS,and he said it is “now like Afghanistan “.diamond lil wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 8:12 pm So then I called 111. Got a lovely doc in A&E who was helpful, said very def an emergency, but during surgery hours it was up to the GP to deal with it, so to get back on the phone and be firm this time. Which I did, but poor hubby had to wait in a lot of pain until 4.30pm for the callback, and it was 5.30pm before he was seen.
I dono how we can self help for things like that. (Doc told him he has kidney disease, a bladder infection and he needs an op on prostate. Got antiBs and pills.)
Health. Self help.

Then when you get to A&E though, you have to sit in a crowded room full of people with possible covid. Would never have believed this could happen- and so fast.

I have back problems. My doc told me to do McKenzie exercises (bending backwards and forefards). They might help to some degree. I know my limits - when I went to a gig in London in June, I went down a day early. I got Valium for it once, but they stop working it you take too many. I also get a different back problem (pain at the base of the spine and difficulty standing straight), which has been a lot worse recently, so I've not done any exercise. It's been getting better but still isn't right. I think it's caused by leaning forwards eg when gardening. McKenzie has you bending, but too much might be bad.jansman wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 5:58 pmI have serious back problems. About five years ago I asked my doctor for some exercises. My Royal Marine friend suggested that would work. The doctor wanted me to take relaxing - drugs and see a specialist. I pointed out that if simple exercises worked, then a lot of time and money would be saved. It took him a week to sort out what I asked for. You know what? It worked. Sometimes simple things can be the best ones.Frnc wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 5:22 pm My shoulder 90% stopped working for months, and it could go into agony if it did move. My doc suggested an operation. I cured it myself with things I did instinctively like pulling my arm with my other arm, some stretching and a video I saw on youtube of some movements. I still do them now and then.

My brother, who was a bit too fond of a drink, had flu some years ago. He was very ill and after a short spell in hospital I took him him one and gave him tinctures of liquorice to support kidney and adrenal function, milk thistle for liver function lots of water and some strong vitamin pills. A few weeks later at the doctor’s, the doctor was very startled by the very good condition his organs were in after being assaulted by the alcohol for years. His liver and kidneys had actually improved! Happily he quit the drink after having my boot up his backside. Sister medicine.
