Was getting fed up of seeing my gas/electricity IHD telling me Weekly Budget Exceeded. I keep track of expected and actual useage based mainly on outside temperature, so I know when I'm over budget. Anyway, I found out how to set my own budget in the IHD, it's dead simple.

My electricity use is a bit lower in summer, as the dehumidifier is off, and a bit higher in winter, as I sometimes use an electric radiator. It varies from about 6 in summer to 9 kWh/day in winter, so I set it to 8.5, although you have to translate this to £.

But the gas obviously varies massively, so I'll have to change that a few times between now and next spring/summer.

Thermostat is a bit annying as 18.5° for hours is overkill, and 18° is not enougn, so I had to adjust it a few times yesterday. Ended up bang on target at 35kWh gas. This keeps lodgers rooms at around 20°.

Is it just me or does this feel really mild for this time of year? I’ve prepped the car but it’s hardly even been raining up in Edinburgh.

We have had one storm but other than that, nowt.

Yes definitely mild , I’m still getting customers phoning me up to go and cut their grass as it’s still growing .

My heating's been out of action for about four days, no possibility of a fix till tomorrow at 4pm, and I'm feeling it a bit :(

I waited years to do this.

When I lived in New Zealand, my old man came down in June for a job interview and stayed with me for a week. Now I lived in Hamilton at the time, it’s inland, sits in a valley and has a river going through it so it gets pretty cold. Houses down there are also usually wooden with very little central heating as winter only lasts for a wee while.

Dad is shivering away in the house and he’s cuddling a hot water bottle. I asked him if he was cold to which he replied he was freezing. I simply said ‘well put on a jumper…’ I had waited 34 years of my life to say that!

Oh I do love this time of year , most of the wet grass just sticks to the underside of the mower and has to be scrapped off after a few runs up and down the lawn . Love it when the job takes twice as long 🤬

I can totally understand that  In the daytime, actually, I put a coat on and have a walk round the block, gets the circulation going, and everything else comes second.

Wonderful, isn't it  I was out for a walk with my sister earlier on, and now I can feel my back stiffening up, which means I'm extra careful how I move, which means, yes, things take twice as long!

You can find out what the average temperature for this time of the year is by going to Accuweather Monthly and selecting this month next year, then going to the date. It was 11/6 for the first few days of Nov, then 11/5, then 10/5, today 10/4. In a few days it drops to 9/4 and stays there for 2 weeks. I assume these figures are specific to your area. Tomorrow's forecast here is down to 3 min.

I do not cut my grass at this time of year!
