Pheasants here would walk into your oven, they're so tame. They just wander over from the pens in the woods and think any human = food. Poor wee sods.

Eventually TPTB will outlaw airguns-just a matter of time IMO.

I dunno, there are a lot of them knocking about (at least a few million), and none of them are registered. So if they wanted to bring in a ban it would have to rely on people handing them in to avoid prosecution. I reckon there would be a lot of people who’d risk it, so the law would be very expensive and hard to enforce.

I agree.Putting it another way,sales of airguns may cease,and existing weapons come under licensing -anyone in public with one would be penalised.Wait and see...

I own an air gun, not a rifle, but would have no problem owning one illegally. Having been raised by a poacher father, who himself had illegal guns, and well...poaching, y`know....
I`m not one of those who believes in sticking to the law`s books no matter what. I`m also willing to take the consequences should I be caught, but being honest? That isn`t likely. A canny auld dad taught me much about avoiding the polis.
I realise that on a public site, the site admin/owners have to disavow any seeming support of illegalities and be seen to uphold the letter of the law in such matters.
But plain speaking? I wonder how many preppers really think, bugger the law, I will do what it takes to look after me and mine. I know I will, regardless of the disapproval of folks who think the law is everything.
At the moment, I own my airgun, a couple of high power crossbows (which have and will be used for hunting), archery bows, swords, knives and throwing axes plus catapults. And a morningstar
Of course any eejit can get hold of a weapon and use it to kill or maim. But there are more responsible weapons owners out there who will act responsibly and use their weapons, post SHTF, to hunt meat and protect lives or goods (and therefore, lives....)
And folks have only my word for it that dad taught me well how to hunt with the least amount of cruelty (if for no other reason than, adrenalin in a beast makes the meat tougher), but....*shrug*.....
I have something that runs in my family....a healthy disregard for the polis when it comes to procuring food and if need be, protecting my family.
So shoot me.

I think folk would be surprised at how easy it would be for people to forget the law if their family's survival was at stake Itsy, the neighbour along the road has a pet pheasant and every year he brings the current wife & kids to visit

The problem with outlawing air weapons is that they don't truly know how many there are in existence. A lot of owners have more than one. if it did happen though it would be the perfect time to plant a few out there in caches for use when the law is not quite so rigid.

I for one would not keep unlicensed rifles-I like my freedom too much,and if I did I would not talk about it on the web.

We are different.
All around me (and it`s the same in many country areas) there are illegal guns. Farmers and crofters keep them, as do individuals. I grew up around them. There was no big "ooh, they`re illegal, aren`t we naughty" thing, just an unspoken understanding that if you got caught, at the least your weapons would be taken from you. The few that did get caught, that`s all that happened. Perhaps it is because country police tend to accept, if not like, that it happens. Country courts likewise. Can`t really say, that`s just my thoughts on it though.
As for talking about it on the web, I have already had someone report me to the police for having illegal weapons, out of malice, even though at this point in time I don`t own any! The police came out as it`s obligatory, but with a good degree of humour and left with a great liking for the weapons I do own. Country police, again.
The law should be the law all across the board, yes? But in reality, character of individual police forces shows and acts accordingly along with the customs and complicated plethora of local knowledge and so on. In other words, there are many policemen who will weigh up the real as opposed to imagined risks and turn a blind eye.
If the day ever comes when I own illegal weapons, then I doubt I`ll even be online, certainly not on any forums, because those will be the days my SHTF and I`ll be too busy doing other things.

Red Doe,Iam very familiar with guns.I have hunted with my dogs just about everything that moves in th uk.I have run the law where I have hunted.4yrs ago I was arrested and held for 24 hours.I am a countryman-frankly I would continue to hunt,but I'll do it with the snare and catapult(I am good at it)I hate the law for what they did but I need the fields and rivers-not a cell!
