Good luck TT, the law degree sounds good, something to focus on. Enjoy getting your prepping together. :)

Cycling through our stored food and reorganizing it. We seem to have lots of spuds and veg in tins but very little fruit or 'comfort food'. Also getting a good pandemic kit together based on some of the lists on this website.

Sorry to read that a few members are struggling with various life issues - thoughts are with you.

Lots of watering late at night and early in the morning............thankfully rain is forecast for this weekend and then of course we shall be weeding for Britain. We have delayed planting out our seedlings because of the dry weather as we want to give them the best chance.

I've done quite a bit of shopping this week and bought all manner of things for the stash from washing powder to mole repellent (whenever Devonian posts the latest cooker thingy displayed in the back garden my first thought is, that lawn is immaculate, then I think of ours  - loved the cat litter idea hamradioop, picked up an additional bag for the OMG stash), spotted some good quality bedlinen at a good price (just needs washing and storing) also fully rotated the toiletry stash

Nearly there now on the rotation front. Out of interest how often does everyone else give everything a good going thro?

My system now sees me using from the stores so as I use one, I replace it, or in the case of preserves, the number just goes down :( We are still eating some of last years produce and I have just canned 4 pints of Chicken thighs for the store cupboard. I use all my stored food routinely so nothing stays in there for that long.

im adding weekly to the canned food/packet foods/soups stock, ive still got a far way to go to get ahead with it all, it did please me last night though when my OH opened the cupboard doors and said why is it getting that theres no room in here no more to put things, :D Like Bristol Dave said though not much on comfort food, about 6 tins of rice pudding is the only sweet thing. I will get some tinned fruit and packet dried fruit, also cereal bars, biscuits etc. :D

I've been working on the food stores a bit. Forgot how much I love Costco. I've also been workjng at the allotment this week. We put in a couple berry bushes and been getting things organised for after the rain.

I have an excel sheet with all the dates for my food stash, each month I swap over the food that we have just bought with that in my stash and update the sheet so that everything is as fresh as it can be. Dried goods in jars with oxygen absorbers I just check by looking to see if they are still air tight. I don't worry about cleaning items, soap powders, toothpaste etc.

Firstly I would recommend you visit the USDA Centre for Home Food Preservation and have a good nosey around. There is also a free guide to home canning available for download on the site.

http://nchfp.uga.edu/publications/publi ... _usda.html

This is the definitive guide to canning safely at home. Once you know the basics, you can then have a look around on the web and check out some youtube videos.

I also found this website useful.

As to equipment....well, it's a sore point really! jars and lids are available over here you just need to shop around for the best deals. Pressure Canners are as rare as Hen's teeth! My son imported mine from USA.
