I've finally got some stuff into Mylar bags! Can only do a little bit at a time because I can't afford it otherwise, but I've got a few kilos of cous cous (we decided that was a good rice substitute for if we have very limited fuel and water - just add a bit of boiling water, cover and leave for 5mins and it's done!), and some pasta.
Trying to build up a supply of lentils next.
I was wondering if anyone has a list of stuff that's not safe to store in Mylar bags (due to the risk of botulism in anaerobic (without oxygen) conditions?

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Teapot, I use 2L fizzy pop bottles to store rice, grains anything small enough to fit in the neck. Just make sure you fill the bottles, this helps to exclude air. If there isn't enough either use a smaller bottle or a Kilner jar. I got this idea from a friend in the US (figures!) He's used this for some years and the food is still good, although he does rotate. If you feel the need you could pop in an oxy absorber, but I don't bother. Anything bigger, like veg I 've dehydrated I store in Kilner Jars, I do use Oxy absorbers for this.
NB. don't use milk containers to store anything. Even after major cleaning, there is still a chance for bacteria to grow and contaminate your stores.

Well done M6
Yes, I would also like to know what CAN'T be stored without oxygen.

Well in my local Tesco's they had an offer on12 x 50cl bottles of Brecon Carreg water for £2.50 - so picked up 48 bottles.
Got a whole pallet full left in store and thinking I may go back for some more.

Back in the spring I planted four strawberry plants in two old pot sinks, been propagating runners off them since June, into plant pots. Anyway a week or so ago I decade to I’d make a little raised bed for them. Just finished it, so now I’ve got 6 plants in there, the four in the sink, two in pots....all been well that should give me plenty of fruit next year.

That sounds great Triple Sod!
I'm attempting to grow some ginger - never tried it before so not sure if it'll work, but ginger is so useful that I figured it was worth a try.

I reckon most of the time as long as you keep the weeds down and give them enough water, things seldom go wrong (unless of course insects are involved
