My car went through it's MOT with a clean sheet no advisorys so I'm happy .. incidentally my mate works for the big insurance Co I'm with ... they use mot data for policy loading fails = higher premiums.. likewise go over your estimated milage (mot records show annual milage) you get screwed ..

Bit of a sideways financial prep in action happy mot man = happy wallet

He said they check, and there'd be no charge if they found a nest and had to postpone, but I'd rather wait and be on the same side. Seem like a good company, anyway, I'll definitely go back to them. It's only a few months. I could get them to do the hedge at the same time. I'll give that a light trim in between now and then.

Not found a gardener, so I'll do the lawn myself for now.

Spent days trying to get a tiny splinter out of my thumb. In the end I carefully used a razor blade, almost parallet to the surface. Think it's gone now.

Did my 4th bike ride of the year. I don't ride in the cold now due to Reynauds, so the season starts in April. Forgot my water and had to go back!
Next time use Ichthammol ointment (black jack or black drawing salve) does the job easily.
Thanks, have ordered a small tub off ebay. Also got some leather gardening gloves. I was really stupid, scrunching up dead honeyscuckle with bare hands. Used shears on the rest - much safer and quicker.

I use worn out leather welding gauntlets for heavier garden work, although they're cheap enough new. Handy for trickier oven-shuffling operations too! I leave one on top of my big CO2 fire extinguiser as well, which supposedly has a frost-free horn, but I don't trust it!

Yes I use Amish ‘Draw Salve’ - same sort of stuff - got it on Amazon - bit pricier but you only need a tiny bit and it lasts forever. I’m always getting thorns when I’m gardening as I detest gardening gloves (I like to feel my hands in the earth!) and only wear them for very ‘spiky’ jobs. I should probably get a tetanus …
Yes - I agree - pyracantha for the win. ‘Firethorn’ in Greek; should do the trick!
Busy week getting veg in the ground. Carrots, leeks, red onions, spinach, kale and beetroot now in. Potatoes growing great guns. Feeling productive and new hens enjoying the sunshine and laying well. Pride comes before a fall … ;)

Moved the shelving rack from my room to the prep room. Hopefully it's a step towards decluttering. Most of the prep stuff off it had already been moved to the prep room. I need to start actually getting rid of stuff now.

It's hard, because a. I'm lazy, and b. a hoarder, and c. putting things on ebay and posting them is extremely boring. I did get rid of some stuff in one of those charity collection bags. I also gave away my old dehumidifier on Gumtree.

I think some things like empty water containers are going to have to go in the attic.

As this massive water pipe burst has left us without water all day and we are still without water, I bought 84l on the way home and will get more tomorrow too as it’s starting to affect other area with low pressure etc.
It did feel good this morning to be able to have enough water around the house to flush, wash and drink before going to work. And my ‘prepping’ has rubbed off a little on my not so little children as my daughter got up, washed in cold water and then went to the supermarket to buy more water!

Interesting thing happened just now. I posted a bit on X. I'd got ChatGPT to do a calculation, and I posted the gist. Out of nowhere (I didn't tag it), Grok replied, almost immediately, agreeing with most of it, but giving a lower number for one thing, saying this suggested an error. IT'S ALIVE!

Maybe it was tagged earlier in the thread. I don't know. I've not seen it reply spontaneously before, without being asked.

People are asking it all sorts of things now. Eg things in the news. Or 'is this true?'

Finshed moving stuff from the bedroom rack to its new position in the prep room. Chucked some stuff out. Bedroom seems more spaceous already. It's a start. My room is a weird shape, with about a square meter chopped out of the corner, due to the house being converted from 2 bedroom to 3 upstairs. The rack was in that narrow bit, plus a chest of drawers, and my clothes drying rack if the weather's bad. So if the rack was in use, it would be difficult to open the drawers.

In hindsight, I wish I'd not accumulated so much stuff. It's one reason I don't buy much prep stuff now.

Stupidly dumped a dust sheet on my bed and realised it was full of white stuff from when the ceiling leaked. I think it's called distemper. Not great on black sheets.
