I'm attempting to grow some ginger - never tried it before so not sure if it'll work, but ginger is so useful that I figured it was worth a try.
Why not :)

I reckon most of the time as long as you keep the weeds down and give them enough water, things seldom go wrong (unless of course insects are involved :x )
well, that's true but ginger's a tropical plant and we live up north so I've decided to try growing it indoors and see how that goes. :) I hope it works out well!

Ah never knew that, mind the closest I’ve ever come to ginger is a slice of parkin
Hope it succeeds :)

Today I had a flood in the airing cupboard - all over the newly ironed clothes of course. Rang a friend who said 'turn off the water, and also the electricity to the immersion heater (as the water was running over the socket/wires). So - ok I've now got a stock of water after last weeks fiasco :D
No problemo!! Went to turn off the electric and remembered I had the builder from hell to replace the fuse box. And he used the largest one he could find - and didn't label any of the switches. Brilliant!!

So, my advice to preppers for this week is to check that all your fuses are labelled before there's a problem and you don't know which one is which!

We've had a bad few months and have been using many of the preps I was storing. Now we're back on an even keel, I've realised just how much I had stocked, how much we have used and that I've now got to start building it up again. I reckon that I had stocked about four months worth of food, we still have some tins and packets left, but the stock toiletries ran out just last week. If fresh meat isn't available, I know I have to have more on the shelves than what I had.

Although OH wasn't keen on how much I had prepped and even made fun of it... He was sure glad of it once he realised it was needed.

Just thought I'd say a thank you to everyone on here who helped in some way to make our momentary struggle that bit easier to live with.

Glad things worked out. I'm using our preps at the moment too, I'm hoping they'll take us through to the end of September with a top up of some fresh and freezer foods. Does help that there's lots of lovely fresh stuff in the garden at the mo.

Went on an historic well walk yesterday (you know, those with water in them) and now have knowledge of water sources very close to where I live but not obvious to everybody. 2 wells still have water diverted from them into streams, 1 of which apparently never dries up! Also found out about several ponds that can't be seen from the road but could be useful.

Thank you, it's a lesson well learned.

Speaking of learning, that would be something that would be very useful, to know where local springs/wells are. Our house (1900) is built on old farmland, so there might be something that is still nearby...

But then again, it may be the source of the stream that ran under our house that I mentioned last year. Caused no end of problems.

Been busy recently work and camping trip with family. We ended up on a all singing camp site to keep them happy and start them off gently. They all now looking forward to the next trip. :D
I even got a new tent out of it as the misses invited her friend to come and she got a four man dome from asda for the trip. At the end of the weekend she decided that it was to small for her and her partner  and gave it to us.
So i now have five tents in the trailer and the misses gave me the go ahead to buy more kit for next time. :D

Today I cut firewood-lots of it.I used a gallon of juice in the chainsaw-that equates to a lot of logs!LTer in the week I shall continue with building my raised beds.I am converting my garden from conventional rows to deep beds,to increase the yields.I am on sandy soil so I am doing this to conserve water and nutrients.A trial bed I have used for three seasons has proved this to work.
