Exactly, Andy, it was never pleasant, but I couldn't bear it nowadays. I'll never go camping again for pleasure or even as a cheap way of getting around, so literally the only use I'd ever have out of a tent and a sleeping bag would be in a bugout situation, where things are so bad that my sister couldn't drive to my house and fetch me (10 miles distance). As a refocussing of the preps, realistically, and making my house a better place to live in, not only should I get rid of that sleeping bag, I shouldn't buy a replacement. If I find one of those pop up tents for £20 on Amazon, I might use some vouchers on that, they take up so little room. If that journey had to be done on foot, a space blanket and a single duvet would be good enough. I think. I'm still mulling. Thoughts?Yorkshire Andy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 9:26 pm Arzosah

I'm not big on mummy bags either and the extreme technical type are even worse. I've managed quite well with a greatcoat and a blanket (bush camps and re-enactment Period camps) on frosty nights as long as I have a decent sleeping pad .Arzosah wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 9:38 amExactly, Andy, it was never pleasant, but I couldn't bear it nowadays. Stuff changes. When I first realised I was a prepper,Maglight was the dogs doodahs of torches. Now it is LED. My whole house is now LED.I am playing with solar, now it is more affordable.Things like batteries, and emergency power packs are so small and efficient.I cannot comment on sleeping bags though,as I dont like roughing it!Arzosah wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 6:06 pm Thank you both! I've bookmarked both of those to have a think about, and come back to. It's amazing what you find when you've been out of the market for so long. Like the radiators that Jansman had installed - when he had the pipework taken out?
I already have a roll of flexible insulation, like this https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Thermal ... m/p/210022
as well as quite a lot of neoprene left over from my camping mat (I cut it to provide a kneeler for the garden )
I also have half a dozen quilts (two beds, different weights of duvet) that could be used. And space blankets in the prep kits. To have any chance of relaxing during a stop, I'd need a tent to crawl into - even if it got wet, it would be bug and vermin proof, thats what would otherwise keep me awake I can be a bit precious when I set my mind to it, sorry
I really like this! It's very unlikely I'd ever need to do it, but if I *did* need to (or my alter ego that I write about needed to) it literally could be a lifesaver.
That's what I've moved over to. That and hammocking. I sleep better and no struggling to get up off the floor
Stuff really does change, doesn't it My ambition currently is to get all the hedges cut back, and the garden weeded, and the bare walls in the house painted so that I can play in the way you describejansman wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 7:33 pm Stuff changes. When I first realised I was a prepper,Maglight was the dogs doodahs of torches. Now it is LED.
