Yeah, I know what you mean, my 'normal' EDC can fit in my trouser pockets, but if I'm going further afield I usually have a jacket with....more pockets for bits and bobs. If I'm away overnight I tend to take more, I'm generally governed by how far I am from home to a large extent but its not foolproof, if I'm at an away game with the football you don't want to have too much that will attract the attention of the stewards or police, for example.dangerman wrote:Deeps wrote:
I do enjoy a good torch. Or ten. I've got several around the house and I always have two on my person (the Ti2 in my wallet and the Energiser one on my keys). I was getting to the point of ridiculous with he amount of crap I was carrying with me everywhere. Remember this fake Maxpedition Remora EDC I used to use? I had this at the bottom of my backpack for nigh on four months while I was learning about the subject. It weighed about the same as a small hippo.
Now I'm trying to carry as little as possible but still have the functionality of Macgyver. I've got a drawer that's by the front door and I've got all my EDC stuff in there. If I know I'm going somewhere, I'll bring back up stuff or things that I wouldn't ordinarily need. The stuff in that draw is becoming quite comprehensive.

Re: A UK friendly specific EDC gadget thread!
I tend to think of my EDC as the crap I always have in my pocket. If I'm going to work I have a bag full of stuff and my Bob in the boot of my car. I keep a few plasters in my wallet, but if I were walking into town to get a bit of lunch and a jar or two, I'd be unlikely to be carry a full FAK.

Thanks for the link, I'll grab some of those.Deeps wrote:The reason I'm wanting the one mode on/off version is I don't need the strobing function and can't really think of an occasion when I've went for the low setting. You have to cycle through the functions to get to the one you want, not a deal breaker but if I can get the one function jobbies for less than 2 quid a pop then that'll do for me.sniper 55 wrote:I'm courious why you'd give away a 3 mode torch for a 1 mode, I have the same 1 mode but I'm waiting for the 3 modes versions to arrive, what am I missing?
Also where did you get the AAA to AA addaptor gadget? Could be handy.
The adaptors from AAA to AA are available on Ebay and Amazon etc, I'm waiting from a batch from China although I'm unlikely to need them. I've gone for the slightly pricier ones from Amazon, only because I don't like Ebay.

Re: A UK friendly specific EDC gadget thread!
I think someone on here linked cheaper ones on Ebay if that's any help, that's where I first heard of them, if you're an Ebay user have a look on there too mate.sniper 55 wrote:Thanks for the link, I'll grab some of those.Deeps wrote:The reason I'm wanting the one mode on/off version is I don't need the strobing function and can't really think of an occasion when I've went for the low setting. For those interested, i too saw the post with someone linking the ones from china, and the only difference i can see (from the ones posted here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/TOOGOO-Battery- ... +converter) is the fact that there's no peice of metal near the negative.

Oh yeah, good spot! Never noticed that. It's not made any difference on anything that I've tried them in (torches, remote controls, Xbox controllers, radios) but I bet that would be a problem with some gadgets.Toddie wrote:For those interested, i too saw the post with someone linking the ones from china, and the only difference i can see (from the ones posted here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/TOOGOO-Battery- ... +converter) is the fact that there's no peice of metal near the negative.
Bit of foil would probably do the trick if needed though.

they probably rely on the devices its powering having a spring of some type for the negative terminal (which is normal) to contact with the battery directly through a hole in the bottom of the adapterdangerman wrote:Oh yeah, good spot! Re: A UK friendly specific EDC gadget thread!
Today I will be carrying my EDC knife clipped into my pocket. I'm just trying it out because I usually I worry that some may view it as a bit anti-social. But today I'm mostly around the house and won't be going out very much at all really.
I've noticed that there are a few occasions pretty much every day where I've wanted to cut something but I've not had a knife big enough for the task at hand. So I'll be cutting my apples with this today.

I have an Eton G3 Globle Traveler and SW wire antenna in my Bob, but that lives in the boot of my car.dangerman wrote:Touché dear boy!Captain Darling wrote:I use them to open and close handcuffs...Why the handcuff key?

Does anyone carry a radio? I know of some people who carry a decent quality little pocket radio and I like the idea, more just to listen to talksport or the match when I realise I'm missing it. But radios are obviously useful for a wide array of situations. There are radios built into most phones these days and I've got two phones at the moment with analogue radios built into them. The problem I have is that I can never get a good enough signal on them, I can just about hear what's going on, but it's not nice to listen to.
Also, iPhones and a lot of others smartphones have now had the analogue radio functionality removed.
I bought this a while ago and keep it in my car EDC, it runs on two aaa batteries:
It's a cracking little thing, and good for emergencies, but similarly with the phone radios I have, the sound quality isn't really very nice.
Any thoughts?
My Icom E90, Yaesu VX6 and Uniden Scanners all do FM/AM but the Eton will go lower and has SSB.
