I didn't think anyone was being pedantic?? I see nothing wrong with being specific. As for enjoying thoughts and ideas I agree.

Easy, the nearest Army base - for me that's 1 mile to a TA Unit and a further mile to a Regular Corp HQ.

The latter I know where the Armoury keys are kept
Ok, fair enough ,( and I'm playing Devils Advocate here regardless of if I Agree/Disagree with you ) You turn up at the Base , you manage to access the Armoury... then what??
,

Are you going to turn the base into your 'settlement'??

Thinking along the lines of 28 days later
What does it have as resources?? Horses, dogs, sheep, cows, chickens and feed on board
What doesn't it have?? Adequate fencing
Is it off pre-fall commuter routes?? Unfortunately not
Does it have its own water source? Yes
How will you generate Electricity?? Generators to begin with then wind powered
Detail why and how you would pick it , its Pro's , Cons and how you would balance these.

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

To be honest I think the survivors scenario would be the easiest to survive in. A fast due off would leave a lot if infrastruscture and resources available. If you got organised and started scavenging quickly you could cover yourself for a year or two without needing to farm much. So for me defence and water would be top priority in a location. I would go for a smallish building, isolated with a well adjacent and preferably inside a good perimeter. Sieges are nothing new and were generally successful when the defenders ran out of food, water or suffered disease.

So im guessing a small farm but it must have a well. Scavenging priorities would be a big trailer and vehicle if necessary, general prepper food, medical supplies, bottled water or large containers and fill from the well and store inside, weapons any and all and ammunition, equipment and building materials. Other survivors, thus is by far the hardest as each contact is a risk, I would avoid groups all together initially as alliances will already have been made. I'm not saying to turn away people but trust your gut. If I felt a single flutter id be gone :)

Lie low for as long as possible, if no one knows your there you might avoid all the trouble. Don't just attack anyone who comes near but don't trust them either. As a rule clean well presented people and mixed sex groups (with the women acting as equals) are probably less of a threat. It's useful to think of this the other way round too, when your out scavenging, announce your presence every time you approach a building, don't enter if it appears in use.

A specific place rather than a general idea....for example St Michaels Mt in Cornwall
i know St.Michaels Mount rather well having worked for the family that owned it, the trouble is with islands in general is that they are not self supporting-all the food has to be brought in from the mainland, so unless you can access a HUGE island where you can grow crops and keep animals and have the equipment and manpower to manage it successfully you may find yourself worse off than if you had stayed on the mainland.

That pretty much concurs with my thoughts on Islands as well , I think you need to be considering anything around the Jersey land area and internal infrastructure to have a long term sustainable chance.

May I ask what a pillbox is please? I clicked on the link and it showed all the areas with them in, but not what it is actually. From the comments I'm assuming it is some type of structure under the ground?

Thanks

Something like that...we have covered to a certain extent the high probability/low impact stuff so I thought it might be an idea to try the low probability / high impact scenarios.

No need to get post code specific but if for example someone was off to a particular cottage.....why that cottage and what does it offer (and what are its drawbacks), is your BOL a going concern already, have you stashed and food etc, can it be operated/defended by an individual or do you plan to be part of a group sharing the workload.....sort of thing :D

I know it is unlikely....but who knows, "it" might happen tomorrow :D
