Hopefully it was just him... traps re baited no way would a generic hardware shop snap rat trap done him much damage

Funnily enough, I had several trays of French beans which had shown no signs of life after 9 days of sitting in a warm greenhouse, in damp seed compost. As soon as the weather turned I had 2" bean plants within the space of around 14 hours  They must have felt the changing weather and decided it was time to grow, the senses of plants deserve more credit than they're given!

My room is transformed.

I thought I'd sold my standing desk and draughtman's chair, so those are in the living room. I'm reluctant to bring them back up in case I bash the newly decorated walls and doors. I'll give them away if they aren't sold in the next two weeks.

To recap, I recently moved the shelving rack into the prep room, and turned the bed 90° (which was a struggle). Moved a small book case around the corner. Moved my computer onto the drawers, making a small rack redundant. Loads of wires had to be moved. New extension lead arrived today, and the wires are much tidier.

I've decided to stay in this room now. It looks loads better already, way more spaceous, and functions better.

If/when the lodger goes, I'll just move into his room for a few days while this is decorated.

One advantage of this layout is I can sit on the edge of my bed and use the computer. It's better for my back. Not good to spend all your time on your back. Admittedly I'm typing on my back now, but I've been sitting up for about an hour each morning.

Ha well done YA bet you're glad Ratty has expired !
Went to car boot this morning the one over your way ! Bought a few of those meaty traps from a stall next to a old friend of yours  he's still alive and kicking
The traps are positioned now for the just in case anything else wants to break in !

Had a week away doing some bucket list stuff been on a hovercraft and a docked battleship and daft stuff like that while I was away I charged all my chargers in hotel rooms and anything else that needed charging obv brought home all the t bags sugar and sachets that you get for free
With having smaller space bought a few decorative wooden boxes for storage that don't look out of place on top of wardrobes large enough to fit some of my preps in
Stocked up on more bottled water and coffee ..the price is mad these days so grabbed a few jars to stick away

Phoned my decorator to ask him to quote for my room, and discuss logistics. Hopefully I can use my bed and TV at night. I think during the day the bed'll get stood on its side. At a push, I can get a B&B for a few days.

Got the OK off upstairs lodger to stick some stuff like my hifi in his room when I get the decorating done.

Reduced his rent, seeing as he's never here. Sounds like he's got no plans to move out yet though, he was saying he'd have some army stuff in his room in September.

Everything's falling into place!

Been after him for a while I removed all other foods put the chickens hopper up high so they could only feed off the big perch in the coup so the 'spilled' food on the trap after a week of no easily available
food was like a kebab to a drunk on a Friday night

He wasn't there when we went a month ago bug glad he's still about :D

Finally bought a system to sharpen my garden tools - I realise I've bought replacements for secateurs and shears, and my lopper is also blunt now. I have manual sharpeners, but energy and joint problems mean I can't do that. So I've bought a drill attachment with a circular action (obvs   ) plus a diamond coated file.

More decluttering. Two items gone free on Gumtree this morning. Some bits in the landfill wheelie bin. Bedroom more or less done now. Just got the prep room to do.

Ordered a new mattress, as mine has a dent. I need to rotate it more. Also, with the new layout, I'm lying sideways on it most of the day. So I need to avoid only using the middle. I can use the ends, and tweak my TV angle. I guess mainly I should use the foot end, as I think the dent was toward the other end. They have a 5 year warranty, but it ran out in January. My fault anyway. I was going to wait until after the decorating, but Argos offered me £105 off before June 3.

That sounds good. I’ve loads of stuff needs sharpening but I put it off because it’s such a chore! Was it very expensive?

Finally got round to sorting one of the water butts that wasn’t refilling; filter in was totally blocked by slugs - yuk.

People have mentioned poor germination this year. Mine has been bad then the seedlings just stopped growing and lots died. I've never had this before. I've bought some vermiculite to increase drainage. Anything I took a risk on and planted out into the garden early has done well because of the warm weather, anything I kept in pots to nurture...died. I think this is the first year ive bought peat free compost. I assumed it was all peat free before, I've read that this can lead to water holding so suspect that's why I lost so much due to damping off.

Repotting things and pottering in the garden as been a great help. I unfortunately have been diagnosed with breast cancer with my mastectomy booked for Friday. Keeping fingers crossed that nothing is found in the nodes and I/my family can just move on from this. It's been a bit carp! Gardening has helped, I'm supposed to be stopping spending money but I have ordered some more fruit trees from places selling them off cheap and some hardy kiwi vines. If everything arrives after the op, husband will have to dig the holes for me ;)

I've also got the stuff ordered for raising some chicks. It's going to be a good project for the boys, our rescue hens are laying about 1 egg a day between the 4 of them and weve had a few yolkless ones. The farm are expecting to hatch some around mid July. I'm hoping it's light enough work that I can continue to do it (or instruct others) whilst having radiotherapy. Fingers crossed on not needing chemo but see what comes and deal with it then.

Also, as its half term, we bought some fishing rods and went fishing for a bit. 1 each of the boys and 1 for husband and I to share to learn to lure fish. Bith boys caught one but we lost them both when i tried to help, reading into it i think i didnt keep the line tight enough. My eldest (age 7) has always wanted to give it a go and I'm very happy for them to learn to catch their own food. Living in cornwall, it would be a shame not to. I dont eat meat but do eat fish and there has been more hoohaa in the news about provenance of fishpond in supermarkets so I would love to catch my own mackeral and bass and pollack. I suggested going to a nearby air rifle club to see if he wants to learn to shoot and possibly one day hunt, he wasn't keen and looks like he's too young for the clubs at the moment anyway.

Other prepping, we were going to aggressively pay off a personal loan we have feom getting a new kitchen but I don't know how long I'll be off work so we've decided to put it into savings. I do find it very easy to spend money. I don't get hair and nails done, don't have many clothes, but happily spend money on various hobbies and home stuff.
