Haven't done anything at all today - watching the news out of Greece and Tunisia, washing my hair, thats it - shopping trip to the coast absolutely wiped me out :(
I started planning as I got fed up with deciding "what's for dinner" and having odd bits in the freezer, we have a small lamb shank and 4 lamb chops which are not enough on their own for a dinner for 3 adults (one a hollow legged, always hungry, walking stomach) but combined will be great, will put these in the slow cooker and the shank is in a minted gravy which will flavour the chops and be the gravy for the finished meal. I have two pork gammon steaks which will be chopped up and stir fried, some chunks of chicken breast and 3 thighs which will be a slow cooked curry. I don't need to buy any food this month other than fresh milk, been making my own bread for a while now too, saves money!!

Dreading the heat tomorrow :( it really does zap the energy doesn't it.
I'm dreading the heat too - my windows that have fly screens are all open, the window with the sun directly on it is shut (except where I have the curtain open to fuel the sun kettle :) ) and I have a bit of a bee invasion going on. 8 yesterday, we'll see if there's more today.

I like your meal plans! I'm veggie - so its often about different beans - I tend to cook 2 or 3 types with similar cooking times in the slow cooker, then fry an onion and stick them in at the end, with whatever seasoning feels right - mixed herbs and tom. puree, curry, North African spices, whatever. Pesto takes precedence over all  Also cashews twice a week or so (Asda are really cheap right now!) other nuts and seeds are snacks with dried fruit, I don't like the flavours so much.

3 bigger fire extinguishers on their way to us. Already have a stock of small ones. Living in a terraced row we don't think our neighbours possess any and if any of them should have a fire it would possibly effect the whole row.

Hopefully moving into our new home in a few weeks / month, really excited about this for many reasons, the house was built in 1870 and was an old coach house. It has two cellars and one of them is approx 20m x 5m so this is going to have a stud wall to cut it in half, I intend to turn the rear half into a Prepper Store, complete with food storage and gun safe. there is a burn that runs at the back of the property which I intend to use for water storage. The House also has a wet cellar, not sure what i will use that for but I guess it will be okay for storing canoes etc. If you have any ideas on what to do with the other cellars please mention them.

Thanks

Djorn

Hi Djorn,

Would there be any possibility of making them into Safe rooms/Emergency living areas in case if TSHTF and you did not have a BOL, did not have time to leave or did not want to,
with your other rooms with all your prepper stuff already there you'd be in an ideal position.

Regards,
Tizzie

P.S. Myself and Mr. T are really envious.

Just started with the Scouts on Monday. Started with kayaking on the local river and whew! I'm out of shape. Anyway, I did this for several reasons: I am retired and have plenty of time on my hands; I can practice all those skills that I have learned over the years but not really practiced a lot; but I think the number one reason is I can teach a young person the skills they need to be a productive member of society as well as the skills needed to survive most any given situation. I can instill in them what it is to be comfortable in the outdoors instead of tucked away in their bedroom on some video game with no knowledge of what the world is or how it works. My grandfather taught me loads of things that I thought were useless at the time, but have found I have used them time and time again. Maybe I can do the same for these kids and like I said, it gives me the chance to practice and hone my own skills.

There is no such thing as 'overbuying' when it comes to batteries, lanterns and torches. Oh, or fuel for stoves.

Good for you mate, I'm not sure I'd have the patience but I could see myself doing something similar in the future. I got a lot from the cadets and it just seems fair to put something back in.

My patience is kinda thin these days as well mate. I am sure most of the kids will think they are in basic training for the army. LOL.

Had a good friend visit tonight and he helped me strip down and service my old 2 stroke putt putt generator thats was a total none runner fuel filter was gunked up so were the jets ,,,,

showed me how to strip and clean the entire carb (never had one in bits before) and how to clean and sort the magneto pickups to get a nice crisp spark....

once done he showed me how to set up the now working carb and i set the throttle actuator so it no longer makes 300 volts ac
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine
