I love that watch!

I tried making a fire with hand gel yesterday. Didn't work. I'm crap at setting fire to stuff. I'm the worst pyromaniac ever.

I enjoyed carrying my knife yesterday. Used it for a couple of small tasks but I could have done without it. Maybe the more I carry it the more I'll find uses. Everyone on YouTube seem to be adamant that everyone should be carrying one. I think I've been totally deskilled.

My wife is buying me a gift because she knows I like this kind of stuff - she found this online and wanted to check with me that I want it before she ordered it from the states.

It's a jacket with a ton of hidden pockets, designed to let geeks like me carry a shed load of stuff but without it looking bulky or anything.

Perfect! :)

I tend to fill jackets quite well without stuffing extra stuff into them.

The reason I like it is that it has two VITAL features - a removable battery and it has expandable memory. Most phones don't have this anymore and so this has become an essential criteria. These phones are now cheaply purchased from eBay or Amazon or wherever. I got a 64GB card that works flawlessly for £9 and a spare battery that I keep in my wallet for £3.99. I bought a solid two part case for about a year ago and has protected it really well from my abuse. And now you can get Otterboxes and things like that for it on the cheap since it's an old model. Chargers cost about a quid each so I've got them everywhere.

When considering EDC, I always think Keys, Wallet, Phone. And the phone is probably the most important gadget of all, especially since you can now use them like a credit card.
Yes i have the same phone as well and it does have the Otterbox Defender as a case and and Ultimate sheild to protect the screen and in the year i have had it she has been bomb proof, nightmare to root i have to say, only method that worked for me was "Purple Drake" and i'm still on KitKat i think, Otterbox is amazing it's big and bulky but save my phone at least half a dozen times so worth it's weight in gold, only downside to the phone IMO is crap camera, like you i NEEDED removable battery and it has expandable memory and it works fine with my Samsung 64GB card

My Icom E90, Yaesu VX6 and Uniden Scanners all do FM/AM but the Eton will go lower and has SSB.
Can i ask what you expect to pick up from these nowadays, given most comms have gone Tetra route? I know in London i'm wondering if it's worth hanging on to my scanner an more, i get what SSB has to offer, but unsure what you will pick up on the lower side of things and also how low is low to pick up intresting info in a SHTF situation?

Please bear in mind i am prepping for the River Thames to flood and how i can get to safe ground, I'm not worried about the end of the world..... I'll die with the other Minions.
I can't trust Govt or local Council to help me so i have to help myself.

I think it depends what you do, like today I opened a bunch laptop boxes with my Gerber. I'd say I use it everyday, mostly for opening up packages, but also for cutting loose threads and basic food stuff. If I've not had time to make lunch the night before I might stop in Lidl and buy a couple of rolls, cooked meat, and some coleslaw and make myself a sandwich in the car, as I find supermarket and petrol station sandwiches are fairly tasteless.

On the Eton radio, I get a lot of Ham stuff, but mostly you can pick up Korean, Chinese, Russian and other broadcasts from around the world and know what going on. Lots of counties have English language SW stations.

With the Uniden scanner, it's mostly used for close call which automatically tunes into anyone broadcasting near your location. Its also quite nice when paired with software like PDW Paging Decoder, you can decode pagers which are still used within the emergency services. You can decode DMR with a cheap tv tuner SDR, same goes for pagers, but I tend to prefer doing with a real scanner as it draws less power and those TV dongs run molten hot after 15 minutes.

The Icom and Yaesu are mostly used for their intended purpose which is comms, whether that be with a 2m/70cm whip antenna or a arrow antenna to work satellites.

I've been looking for a small pocket first aid kit for EDC, so from browsing Amazon, I found a pocket kit for £1.85 and thought I'd give it a go and buy two.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003 ... 13&sr=8-13

The build guilty isn't bad, the only thing that is a bit flimsy is the zippier pull, which I'd replace with paracord. The stitching seems fine.
Image

Very basic, but fine for every day use.
Image

Additions I made, although I could only fit one eye wash in.
  • Eye wash
    Burn gel
    Pain killer
    Extra bandage
    Butterfly stitches
Image

Its not really bulky, even with the additions and although I think I'll need to replace the zippier pull, its a nice addition to my pocket EDC.

Anyone looking for a cheap Ferro rod for EDC, this seller has them on for £1.20 with free delivery (from China)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00D ... p263_d0_i1

I bought 5 to make up some smaller grab bags and tested one out in the garden, works a treat. Their smallish, so may make a nice addition to peoples keys.

Metatron, the item on Amazon says 'Quantity: 2' so does that mean you had 10? Or are they suggesting the rod and striker count as 2?
My prepping consists of bugging out by bicycle so any comments are likely to be based on that scenario.

The beauty of these is that they're designed to look normal, as in, they are supposed to distribute the weight of all your crap. The bloke who invented it has done videos demonstrating the amount that it can carry and it's quite impressive.

At the moment I'm still carrying a bag with me most places, to put my first and second EDC (loose term) pouches. I'm hoping that with this jacket will negate the need for me to carry a bag for most of the year. Of course, in the peak of summer and the peak of winter it may not be good, but that's probably when I'd want to be carrying a bag for a few extras anyway, like sun cream or a waterproof jacket and fleece.
