How is everyone dealing with rising prices?
Re: How is everyone dealing with rising prices?
At work in this cold weather I wear a welders snood, it goes on before the T-shirt and covers my shoulders and up to my nose/ears. Absolutely critical element of my winter work wear!! Would do wonders indoors should the need arise. And keep your tops tucked in!!!

I don't want to be doom-ist, but I do feel the slow collapse scenario really is starting to play out in front of our eyesdiamond lil wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 5:25 pm This is from a farmer up north on the Scots weather forum. He's very sane and well clue-ed up about things and he posted this yesterday:
*Re input prices in farming, having just had a conversation with an old college friend who is my main fertiliser contact where prices have risen by about 250% on the year due mostly to the Russians and Chinese playing silly so and sos with world markets.
Chemical sprays are the same along with machinery and to an extent fuel as well. Online shopping too shows food prices accelerating because of this but still have a way to go to match cost increases, so financial prudence is the side I have come down on rather than agronomic need. So our output will fall and if enough of us round the world do this then grain prices should rise to a level to cover this or the Chinese and Russians will release their stranglehold on costs of inputs if they can"t sell as much. This scenario played out in 2008 and lasted a year.Don"t think it will resolve itself so quickly this time.*

I think this is one of the forums we can be doom-ist in - we're all preppers in here

While I'd much prefer that I have a slightly strange hobby rather then a Necessity.

Not Doom-ist,more Realist. We have a perfect storm brewing; The largest global population ever known,a pandemic, water and energy shortages and land depletion too.Massive consumption ( all the world aspiring to live like us in the First World) and all of it contributing to climate change. As the Chinese proverb states ,sort of;We are doomed to live in interesting times.Arzosah wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 10:52 pmI don't want to be doom-ist, but I do feel the slow collapse scenario really is starting to play out in front of our eyesdiamond lil wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 5:25 pm This is from a farmer up north on the Scots weather forum. I find it fascinating if I am honest.

I've been following this on Twitter. Jack is now coming up with a new price index (the 'Vimes Boots Index') to counter the 'official' price index: https://www.theguardian.com/society/202 ... dApp_Otherjansman wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 9:45 am Here is an interesting’article’ by Jack Monroe, the Bootstrap Cook. https://cookingonabootstrap.com/ It’s in the form of a series of’tweets’ ,but worth a read. Yep, I read the Twitter thread (I never post on Twitter, but some of the stuff I read on there is fascinating). Love Jack.
