Be Prepared.
Plan like its the last loaf on the shop shelves.
Plan like its the last beer in the fridge.

I'll survive
The guy in the link says a lot of very sensible things. Yes, if I had to take to the woods, I know I could survive. But there's a difference between surviving and living, and I rather think that most of us prefer living, even if it is in quite a primitive way, compared to what we're used to now. So whilst it'd probably be ok to lurk in the wilds for a bit, on an improvised basis, for a lengthy stay, you're going to need a decent solid shelter and people around you. You're going to need a way to preserve what you can catch, forage or even grow in the summer, to see you through the winter. Better to plan for that right from the start, to have a base.

Re: Bug in or bug out
Definiteley bug in for me and mine. Health problems mean that the decision is taken out of my hands. Stock up, keep our heads down and hope for the best. I think after 3 months of my meds running out i would be thinking about 'bugging out' permanently as life would not be worth living then. Still, on a positive side this does give me limitations and a framework i have to work within so it is a little bit easier than people who have to prepare for all scenarios. Even with these limitations i am convinced me and mine will be better off than people around us for the first few weeks or months. Only started stocking up after the new year but could probably feed and water my family for a few weeks if we were carefull. Amazing how good it feels.
Re: Bug in or bug out
This would depend on the severity of the reason to bi or bo.
If the police lose control ( London riots proved they can, that could have been a million times worse )
No police or military ( of which we have precious little to go around the uk ) we get rioting, looting, people fighting for booze, fags, drugs, food water, survival can all happen in a short period of time.
In that situation in suburbia I would bug out, loss of power, utilities for a few days bug in but keeping a beady eye on the general mood of people in my area, if I sense my house could be ransacked or burnt to the ground me and my family will go into hiding, hoping it all calms down. I ain't being killed for my food and water supplies, and the people I live near would kill for a fag and a can of beer if they got so desperate, which wouldn't take long if the local offy got ransacked.
These idiots would probably steal my big tv instead of my food but hey, Im not saying nowt
It's not just about the apocalypse or disaster it how we as human beings react to such things.
I could bug out in 15 mins, rucksacks at the ready. Lol
