Tilted the south facing kitchen blind up, but it could have been the lodger who opened it yesterday, so will have to check later. Got both doors open, most windows. My room was 28.4 when I got up, 1° hotter than yesterday. It gets the morning sun, so I'm trying to balance letting cool air in, with keeping sunlight out. I don't think I even used the empty duvet cover last night. I just slept in vest and boxers, with nothing on top. Sometimes I might have the duvet cover on my hip, as a sort of token gesture, because it feels a bit weird having nothing over me.

Watering pot plants is crucial in this weather. I've read that some might want watering twice a day. I watered them yesterday morning, but forgot to check at night. So, made a note to water thoroughly this morning, and check tonight.

Bought some rotational prep food - more tomato puree, tinned tomatoes and pasta. Mixed up a pack of falafel mix that was near expiry. It's an excellent prep food, nice to use up with some salad in the summer. It'll do about 2 or 3 more lunches. Checked my long life curry, got about 7 packs. 5 need to be used by November. I need to sort my cupboard properly though, and check how much tuna I have.

Got various stuff coming on Amazon subscribe and save, which is one way of not forgetting to stock up. Was pleasantly surprised that the Nescafe Azera (I ordered 6 x 140g) had dropped £10 in price (£35 to £25), so it's now £3.03 per 100g. That is CHEAP! In Saisnbury's it's £8.06 per 100g in the smaller tins, and the 140g tins are £5.89/100g.

Any other hot sleepers on here? Also I have Reynauds, which paradoxically gives me cold feet! So to go with the newly decorated bedroom, I've got new bedding.

New 'winter' duvet arrived today. Put in colour coded cover (green) in storage bag under bed. It's a bit thinner than I expected, but it is only Tog 4.5, rated for summer. I can always stick my Tog 1 on top, or even my Tog 3. But they'll stay in separate, colour coded covers. Sometimes in winter, it's only my legs and feet that feel cold, so I can have the extra one just there. I think using two in separate covers gives you a lot of flexibilty. In fact I'm gonna have that flexibilty all year, eg now, I have the empty cover (natural colour) which the Tog 3 will go in in the autumn, or the Tog 1 which is in a blue cover. I won't use both at the same time, but I can swap, depending on the temperature in my room. I think tonight, the empty cover should be ok, even though it's a lot cooler today.

Thankfully finished dispatching the last of the birds tonight. That's all the broilers, ducks, geese and muscovies (apart from our breeders and a few stragglers) gone. Work to do disinfecting and cleaning all the pens this coming week. We are still pressure canning them all then making cat/dog food and bone meal from the remains. Once we have caught up we will start on the rabbits, surplus goats and lambs.

Dehydrators are running constantly as we harvest all the veg from the field/garden, we are struggling to keep on top of it all at present up at 6am and not finished till gone 10 at night.

Stored enough milk also butter and cheese so far to see us through to next year, scythed our first home grown lucerne and it is growing back well so that has been a success and we will extend the growing area when time allows.

Whoever said you should put your feet up when you give up work!!

Since I had my bedroom decorated, I'm trying to keep any preps in here out of sight. I just remembered my boots. I don't have any shoes in here except a pair of slippers, so I need boots in case of fire. Anyway, I found them, and put them under the bed, next to the fire escape ladder. They are both under the corner of the bed nearest the window, easy to remember and find.

I was thinking about getting a smaller radio for bug-out. The wind-up one is a bit big. Then I remembered the one I have in the living room, which I put on if no one is in the house. It can run off two AAs, and is not much bigger than a pocket radio. So I made a note in my evac plan to grab AAs, and the radio.

Checked the date on 12 x AAA batteries in my BOB. Charged Oct last year, which is when I usually charge NiMH batteries that aren't in regular use. They are in 3 small plastic boxes - I think the boxes came free with the batteries. Found some similar boxes that take AAs (or AAAs). 9 for £4 on Amazon. I need to organise some other batteries, mostly AAs. Some are in regular use for my keyboard and trackpad. But others, non-eneloop, are spare, so I need to charge them once a year.

Got a big delivery yesterday. Milton tabs for steralising water container every year. 6 x 140g Nescafe Azera, fantastic price on Amazon (£3 per 100g), 6 x shower spray (mainly for the inner shower curtain), tub of Bisto parsley sauce mix. All on subscribe n save.

Sainsburys are changing Smart shop. You will have to unlock your prices each week in the app from the 25th. They will refresh every Friday. But I think you can get the prices without scanning while you shop. Sky news article didn't tally with email, so will have to confirm. I think it might still be worth using the handset though, when using the personalised offers, because that way you can instantly confirm that the store has priced each item correctly, ie applied the advertised discounts (sometimes they don't). The non-personalised ones are shown on shelf price labels.

Started charging the various rechargeable lamps to keep them topped up couple of the cheap lamps have self discharged so a quick run round topping them all do won't harm especially if i utilise the solar chargers ... the 2 minutes a day loss of light in the evening is staring to be noticeable ... darker nights are slowly creeping In likewise darker mornings

Yep - nights are drawing in!!
Bit of time off so going to spend a ‘preps’ day sorting food rotation, checking dates and making a list of anything that needs buying. Also planning to swap out stored water (5 litre bottles - lots - and some 25 litre ones) but will use old stuff on the garden so it’s not wasted. I know it’s recommended to put a few drops of bleach in the bottles when storing water - can anyone advise which kind - I used ‘Milton’ last time - is that ok?
