Have now been eating insects from crunchy critters. Quite nice. Have got over the ick factor. Now its a question of working out whether I can either gather them or farm them. Then its a question of making sure I can prepare them safely. But i also need space. Will look into how hobbyists do their colonies and will then ascertain which method is right for me.

Which insects have you been eating out of curiousity?

I suppose insects (and slugs and snails) will be good sustainable food when SHTF.

Also a good breeze can blow out the burner...

From my domestic unit uses by the book about 250g of gas a day so a 15kg bottle should last about 60 days!

A electronic thermometer might be a good investment ideally with a alarm for Max / min temperature keep an eye in lidl over the next couple of months if they get winter car care stuff in they get the thermometers in regularly
Useful tips! Many thanks! :D

Is that about lpg fridges kinda lost track on this thread . Never had our gas fridge freezer in the horsebox go out even when driving at our restricted 54mph. Or on exposed cross country courses .

Maybe just lucky but its only gone out when we switch it off.

Yes LPG fridges

On mains there is a thermocouple which knocks the power / cooling off at what ever pre set temperature you set it at..... On the dial

On gas there is no thermostat only size of the flame (bigger flame = more cooling)

So on a cool day you might find it over cools ( where stuff like insulin's involved it needs to be protected from freezing... )

If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

I'm not sure that I'd eat slugs, snails are a different matter though, the ordinary garden snails are the ones that the French call Petit Gris, and cooked either the French or Italian way they're lovely if you like that sort of thing.

My roadkill deer is all dealt with now, split the meat 50:50 with my mate that helped with the butchery.
In total we got 8 roasting joints, 4 slow roasting joints, 4 bags of stew meat, 12 portions of thick medallions from the loins, two false fillets from the haunches (you'd call it Pope's eye if it was beef) two bags of either slow or fast cook dice and 48 sausages, not counting the sausages and loin medallions that we had for dinner when we'd finished work yesterday, meat could have done with hanging for a couple more days to develop the flavour a bit but I don't have a chiller room and I needed my fridge back! Saying that though it was seriously tasty.
Not bad when all it cost us was some diesel, a cheap tarp, (which is still usable for the same kind of thing if you don't mind a bit of gaffer tape) some seasonings, a hacksaw blade, a load of vacuum bags and some pork fat and sausage skins.
That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.

Mealworms, buffalo worms (smaller than mealworms and basically more tasty) and crickets. I got this batch from crunchycritters. Quite nice

Reading about Jamesey's venison in quick succession with reading about nickdutch's insects is making me salivate at the thought of eating worms. Weird :)
