Thanks Andy, they look quite good, though I think I'll wait for a better price!Yorkshire Andy wrote:sanctuary wrote:This week for me, its going to be research into home security - cctv etc.
It became apparent earlier in the week that our property has a massive blind spot that needs rectifying.
I don't need/want anything super fancy, just something that enables me to see and record our main access.
Keep an eye for these coming back in stock

Think I paid the seller £65 ish a few years ago (silly high price probably because out of stock)
Can read car number plates clear enough with them and fully adjustable focus and zoom
I dislike cameras with built in illumination as if you get dirt on the lenses the illumination causes glare
I was looking at a set with built in illumination, I didn't know about the glare issue, so I'll bear that in mind.
Though I had planned on setting up independent lighting as well, so it may not be as much of an issue.

Picked up one of these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kodak-5200-Powe ... B00NGKR4XC
from local asda, reduced from £16 to £12.60...a bit of a impulse buy to be honest, but as it is supposed to charge tablets as well as smartphones it will go in the 'Power Box'

Signed up for a ham radio foundation course for next month, bought a big old heavy metal torch from Wilkos for a tenner, got a bigger Bob and packed it, tested out the Kelly kettle at imber training village.
Think I'm going to chill out for the next few days and let the credit card relax too.

Now that is interesting, thats about the same price I was expecting for a normal floodlight. Would you recommend infrared in preference to a typical security light? I guess its less obvious to passers by.Yorkshire Andy wrote: I got infrared flood lights from DX.com for £15 ish which illuminate about 30m away

Got out my round looms and have started making hats for my family for christmas presents. You have to use super chunky yarn for it. I have a seasonal dark green acrylic for it.
Started to increase my vitamin C intake in preparation for the autumn and winter. I have a belief that you have to increase the levels in the body ahead of time to help fight off the nasties of the season in question.
It may be warmish and summerish at the moment, but its only a few months to winter, so i had better stock up on ethanol.
Although my chiminea with its ethanol burning tins is great, I am thinking of upgrading to a more stable ethanol burner to fit in it for when the winter comes.

Actually, I seemed to have lied here, I've just used some cash from doing some odd jobs for a mate and selling some shooting gear to buy a solar off grid set up from photonic universe, as so many reccomend on here.Derv wrote:Signed up for a ham radio foundation course for next month, bought a big old heavy metal torch from Wilkos for a tenner, got a bigger Bob and packed it, tested out the Kelly kettle at imber training village.

I don't often post on this thread, but recently I have been reflecting on what I have achieved over the last year, and it's quite a bit. Got a good bike, some food, water and med preps, garden really upgraded in terms of food production, and I have learned a lot about foraging and self-sufficiency. Also got a good big tent and other outdoor gear, and set up an EDC. In car preps too. As a family we have budgeted well and saved quite a lot, and I've also really improved my physical fitness and read a lot about the coming economic and ecological problems. A lot still to do, but some good work achieved.
