How strong?
I once had an argument with a store clerk in Aus once about the strength of DEET. I was asking for a stronger version, she said it can't go above 40%, this went on for a while as she became condensending. I pulled out a tube of 60% DEET, she just silently walked away. I think that was Canberra.
On time, I used it on my feet on the train. I noticed when coming back to my seat, there was a light melted imprint of a similar sized foot on the plastic walk way.
Strong stuff.
50%

Seem someone make a royal mess with the stuff. Gone on a big group meet with another forum (none prepping base) someone was too posh to camp so he got himself the top spec log cabin thing ...

He came to join us .... "Oh Pete you've gone with the deet then"

Oh yes jungle formula best there is...

So I see..

What do you mean

Bright orange under arms and back of his legs strangely the same varnish colour as the posh patio set on his little rented balcony.....

You've got it on your watch too.....

And you're specs....... For feck sake don't wip...we

Too late melted watch strap ruined spec lenses
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Arzosah wrote: Wed Jun 14, 2023 10:41 am You're doing *so* well, jansman, I can't believe how well you cope. This post in particular made me think of my grandad, who worked all his life on the Mersey, he had a gig boat - helping the tugs with the lines to the Pier Head. Hard, dangerous work. He was 65 when he died, only 6 weeks after he first went to the doctor (still, he was a fair bit older than you). He had so much stuff in the old Andersen shelter and the shed, it took the men in the family a year to clean it all up. I'd never seen so many nuts and bolts

Great that you're off to the start of the River Season on Friday! Have a brilliant time ⚓ don't forget your wellies 🥾 or your toolbag 🧰 and hope you catch lots of 🐟🐟🐟
I’m doing ok because I am forcing myself to. I could give in ( and my treatment could easily do that if I let it) but I’ll be bugged if I do! I can also appreciate your grandad,I reckon we’d have got on ok!

Good luck with the drainage. When you do it once, you’ll be able to do it twice. :D
How lovely! Yes, though my grandad never had any appreciable stores of food like we do, he was a sort of prepper before the term was coined. For instance, he had an escape ladder in his bedroom, so that his wife could get out in case of fire overnight, when he might well be working on the river (tides don't respect 9 - 5!). My nan was very feminine, but she could be plenty tough when she set her mind to it, she was an Air Raid Warden during the war. In Liverpool.

That saying of yours is great - do it once, you'll be able to do it twice :D

Few things in the offing here at the moment

New blackout / thermal blinds ordered for the master bedroom and one of the back bedrooms (the other already has a thermal blind)

Solar water heater ordered for the paddling pool might as well give it a try got all the other bits needed..

Ordered a modern take on the old root cellar a hollow tube with a pull out bottle holder can apparently hold 13 beer bottles  now to start thinking about the 90cm deep 125mm wide hole I need to dig

Need to ask if the brother in law has a hand augar

I did buy some Skin So Soft, used it for Download. I probably got this bite in my garden in the last day or two. Maybe start using SSS a bit more.
Getting bitten is an interesting situation. I get the odd ones on the shin or ankle, but not often. Some of the lads when fishing get half eaten alive! I am fortunate in that I never find it severe.
Interesting link here on that subject.

No worries think I've sourced one now if not 2

If it works as well as some say there's some good immediate resilience in a grid down situation to keep some chilled food fresher for longer

My old ,elderly neighbour from years ago had a buried terracotta container outside his ( shady) back door. He’d lived there since the mid 1930’s and never owned a fridge. It worked!

Oh now, that's a good reminder - projects can get a bit fancy, I think. I have some big terracotta plantpots that could easily be adapted to that, and heaven knows I have enough shady areas in the garden

That is a good idea. I could look out for a big terracotta pot and something for a lid.
