Got more onions on the trays today, couldn't fit them all in yesterday. I've put everything into their jars and away in the cupboards.
I've taken my pint and half of chicken stock from the freezer to dehydrate and add to my other chicken bouillon powder, the taste is amazing! I was going to use this for making my own flavoured rice and dehydrate but not sure there's much point as I can just add my bouillon powder to the water!
The plum I did as a tester worked a treat, so much sweeter than I expected it to be so will be doing more of those for sure.
Does anyone know if you can preserve avocados??
What are you dehydrating?

Now I am a total sugar/sweetie/chocolate fiend but the sweetness of this plum was
Very oily so I don't think dehydration is the way to go but wondered if anyone knew of a way to preserve them.

Re: What are you dehydrating?
I've done a little googling.
It seems that apart from freezing, pickling is your only real option.

Re: What are you dehydrating?
Just taken a couple of pineapples out, there must be a lot of water in them bad boys
I've got some more jerky marinating at the moment so I'll get that in tomorrow for a blast. The dehydrator will be getting a day off today (for good behaviour).
Re: What are you dehydrating?
Thanks ForgeCorvus, not sure I fancy pickled avocados
Other than onions and beetroot I'm really not a pickle or chutney lover, can cope with onion marmalade but not stuff that has fruit in it

My chicken bouillon is ready to be ground up and stored and I have a dozen kiwi fruits, plums and more strawberries to get going!

Yeah, I've done the pineapples before, and at 49p a go at Aldi's, might as well make the most of it. I'm curious about doing the bouillon, I'll have to look into this. I'm married to a veggie so it would have limited use in Casa Deeps but she's starting to 'get with the program'. I'm rapidly filling up my Kilner's with all sorts of stuff and pretty much every day I've got something going in the dehydrator, even if its just onions or leeks.Decaff wrote:But soooo worth it, delicious crushed over yoghurt, mousse or ice cream!!!!Deeps wrote:Just taken a couple of pineapples out, there must be a lot of water in them bad boysI've got some more jerky marinating at the moment so I'll get that in tomorrow for a blast. How about fermenting the avacadoes? not sure if that would work?
Re: What are you dehydrating?
Been a while since this thread got an airing, I'm doing some home grown apples at the moment, we kept a bucket of them and they weren't getting used and some had started to go fusty. I do like my dehydrator, its a great prepping aid.
