Thanks lil, not on that group but will look it up. It's very windy this morning but not horrendous.
Local fb page reporting various trees down but doesn't appear too bad (yet). Will no doubt get more reports as people get up. I'm planning on going out at 7am so but have it in my mind I mat just come home again if it is bad.

Nothing worse than laying in bed hearing the clatter and dreading the clear up in the morning



Need to start pricing up tyres up for the car before winter bites.....

Need 2 for the front they are a nats over 4mm but at which point the winter bit wears off.....

One of the worn ones is off on the spare that way they'll all match and the spare is a worn 2017 tyre so due replacement anyway

Bins blew over yesterday evening so Mr A pushed them together to avoid getting rubbish everywhere. There are a few medium sized branches down in the village and a bit of litter I picked up but the usual dog walk along an old railway track will have to wait until tomorrow as I didn't fancy being hit on the head by a falling branch today. Half of the 2-piece lid on one of the compost bins blew off but was secured under the rubbish bin by Mr A last night. The compost bins were a poor choice as always suffer in windy weather and all the lids are broken. All I want is a round bin with a screw on top that I can take off with one hand but could I find one anywhere? Any ideas folks? I know they used to make them because I had 3 at one house.

The only good ones were the big old fashioned metal ones with a heavy lid. We had to keep them in the old house as anything plastic ended up in Norway

We had one bin lid blow off , I just put a brick on it. On a positive note the wind has made picking my almonds a lot easier...

I also went out chestnut picking as the wind has dislodged a fair few of them too. Lots of tiny not worth it ones but enough large ones to half fill a small carrier bag.

Bit of drama this morning..
Wife shouts out that she can't turn the electric shower off. Sure enough, damn thing won't stop. Turns the power off, shower keeps on going, except it's now cold. Tried cycling the power on and off - still going.

Goes downstairs to turn the water off - main stopcock is stuck fast. Probably not been turned in 20 years. Tried some wd40 - no joy. Don't want to force it - it looks old.

No option but to call the emergency plumber out. Fortunately they turn up quickly. Takes the cover off the shower - power off but still running. The solenoid that controls the valve stuck open and not accessible. Ok, turn the mains off on the road. Except that that stock cock doesn't fully close, so still a trickle of water coming into the house...

Eventually gets the shower off the wall and caps it off. New one needs to be fitted. Can't fix the stopcock in the house until the external one is fixed. Get onto local water company. Eventually gets through. "Ok, it's been reported but we can't give you a date when we will be able to fix it....".

Off to screwfix tomorrow to get an external stopcock key thing. And wait to see if the plumber gets back to us...

You'll probably find when the water board man comes he will use a massive key and swing on it like a gorilla... not a problem if he shears it off unlike your plumber


Why i stock some 15mm and 22mm speed fit isolators and rotary pipe cutters shtf..

Cut pipe and bang a isolator on then shut the valve.. Big escape of water for a few seconds then capped securely till a man can turn up

I have these cutters in 15 and 22 mm

Not the best but for occasional use I've no complaints
A length of 15mm and 22mm per plus end inserts and a few in line / bends connectors and threaded adaptors to get stuff working in a problem. And a few spare flexi tap fittings

With my engineering hat on, it's such a rubbish design. What sort of valve fails to Open? Have got the failed shower so it's coming to bits so I can investigate...

Electric and structural things I can deal with. Plumbing - never touched it so have none of the kit. At the moment - lesson learned..
