What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.
Well I'll get to test out no-electric cooking preps later as my oven and hob have just blown! Switched off the grill and a white spark came out of the grill knob with a big 'pop' and everything is off. Not affected other electrics thankfully. I've switched both off at the fuse box as well just in case. If my uncle can't work his magic, I'll be making my tea on a trangia with the back door open for ventilation. I'm glad i had a big lunch!

Short term if it's the grill element get the element unplugged internally and made safe by insulating the spade connections until a new element arrivedLe Mouse wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 1:38 pm Well I'll get to test out no-electric cooking preps later as my oven and hob have just blown! That way you'll retain the hob and oven
New elements are reasonably priced over a new cooker obvious they are make and model dependant bit for an idea :

Glad I'm handy sisters oven went pop ... Local domestic appliance man who she phoned in a panic wanted £200! Element off Amazon £25+ 8 screws later and a bit of care all was good in the world
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong

As it happened, it turns out the fuse box was lying to me and I realised it was the fuse after all when I found that none of the main lights worked - they are all on the same circuit. So I switched everything off at the fusebox and on again, and realised the fridge had also gone off as it sprang back into life behind me!

It's not very exciting, but I have downloaded the NHS Weight Loss app and started the 12 week plan. After all, I think looking after your health is one of the best ways to future-proof yourself
Sticking to it over Christmas, now that's the real challenge!
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.
I'm going through all my policies and updating or switching to a better option. Trying to lock in prices for longer. Not very exciting but needs doing.
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.
May not be exciting, but its important - important any time as a prep, and in particular for covid. I don't have scales, but I weighed myself on my sister's recently, and I'm a tiny fraction under 11 stone (okay, 10stone 13lbs!). Need to work on my portion controlrosecapybara515 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 12:57 pm It's not very exciting, but I have downloaded the NHS Weight Loss app and started the 12 week plan. Definitely. I have an Easy Access Online Saver - they put the rate down from 0.9% p.a.
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.
It is shocking what savings return now,for sure.I am tending towards stocking non perishable foods, workshop consumables, terminal fishing tackle, etc. as it is all imported in the main.I had an email today from Premier Seeds.Because we have no EU Trade Deal ( four and a half years to do this for heaven sake!) There will be no more exports to the EU and Northern Ireland after 23 December.NI is part of the UK! To get seeds from 99p to a million pounds means a £125 certificate of seed health! And that takes two weeks.
That will work in reverse I reckon,so my spare money will be better spent on stuff I use as I will beat inflation.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.
I just got the same email from Premier Seeds which has prompted me into an order of Franchi Seeds from seeds of Italy. The seed packets are a little more expensive but have an awful lot more seed than usual (e.g. 3000 lettuce seeds not 300)
If seeds are in short supply again next spring I should have enough spare to share with the rellies and neighbours if needed and also enough to try to get baby leaves going on the windowsill for the B"%x*t storm that looks headed our way.
