Hi all
This is my first post and i need some advice,
prepping is becoming a slight obsession to me it has been for a few years, but i cant help thinking why i should prep. I started prepping a few years ago i gathered a good supply of food but nothing happened so i packed it in and ate all my food (hmm this time i will make sure i buy some thing i like)
This year and last there seems to be signs of change that indicate its maybe a good idea to prep, but what am i looking at to arrive at this conclusion or is the net and news just scare mongering as they do to get more viewers.
Is there an increase in earth quakes, volcanic activity, severe weather changes, world crops being decimated, animals dying on mass, civil unrest, financial systems going bankrupt, polar shift at a high rate, solar flares, countries buying gold and stock piling food, food prices rising to an alarming rate, sun spots, the list goes on is this all a sign or does it happen every year but because i am looking for it i think its some thing new.
What makes me more suspicious is that the news in the uk reports nothing of this why i dont know maybe its not news.
This year i am considering buying a bulk purchase of army supplies hopefully around a 100 pound which will stop me from stock piling from the shops, plus i am going to get into survival techniques and camping so i will eventualy use up my supplies.
My question is why do i feel the need to prep, i feel a sense of urgency or am i suffering from some kind of preppernoia,
i would like my friends to get involved but they think i am crazy is there any informative sites around that i can trust to try and convince them that it might be a good idea to get prepped.
If nothing happens then atleast ive got loads of food.
ps buy honey..............
why am i prepping.......
Re: why am i prepping.......
I think the point of prepping is so that you don't have to panic. There's no point in being anxious about what *might* happen if it's beyond your control.
The world has always been full of disasters and people messing things up. In my lifetime the worst thing that happened was the 1976 drought. Mostly my preps get me through periods of no money or minor power cuts.
It's good to just live prepared. Go about your daily life knowing you can cope in an emergency. Remember that you have useful things and skills. You'll be fine.
If you say you're prepping for the zombie apocalypse people will think you're crazy. If you say you're just getting a bit of shopping in, no problem

cheers alley
wise words i suppose when we first start prepping we all get a bit anxious, its a waist of time trying to discuss it with anyone i just get laughed at. Here in the uk we all seem to think nothing will ever happen, when i was a kid we allways had candles for the power cuts but just lately well over the past 20 years every things ran smoothly, nothing major has happend.
Looking at the state of the world the weather and food prices then its just a good idea to get prepped.

Re: why am i prepping.......
I think its the only way to live. Short sighted to live happily from week to week when anything can go wrong. Re world events, I think having the internet brings things to your notice a lot more than used to be the case, I think these things always went on but we were not always aware. Makes sense to have a store cupboard...is what your granny did, she wouldn't have thought it paranoid or mad . She and her generation would have thought you wer emad if you didnt have it
Re: why am i prepping.......
Even the Government recommend that you prep these days http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/HomeAndComm ... /index.htm so it isn't just internet lunatics (although there are a lot of those as well ) that prep, plenty of "normal" people just want to have things in place so that if s*** happens then they can cope without too much disruption.

Hi Spog
Maybe Preppers are Darwinian / evolution theory in progress
So maybe it’s your natural instinct kicking in --- your self preservation
In my professional mode I would say perhaps it would be helpful to speak to someone who you can be very open and honest with
Not that they will give you the answer, but who will allow you to identify where these feels come from and why it unsettles you
And lastly you are not alone in your feeling that someone isn’t telling what you need to know, I have many of the same thoughts

That makes sense Counsellor. Maybe the further away we get from a common sense way of life, the more it wakens an instinct in the back of the mind that this is not the way to go..
Re: why am i prepping.......
hi
ignorance is bliss i suppose,
it does feel like a natural self preservation instinct but to be honest i realy enjoy the prepping and have now discoverd i am very interested in survival techniques.
I have allways liked camping and walking and all the tools that come with it, i like shooting, fishing and the thought of being self sufficent, so i suppose its more natural for me to be thinking about prepping as all these interests go along with prepping.
Talking about prepping to to other people who dont have the same interests is hard work and pointless, they just refuse the subject out right and label me fruity (Cognitive dissonance/Confirmation bias) the anoying thing is all i am trying to do is get a conversation going about the subject and reasons why we should prep.
The snow last year is one good reason, towards the end of the snowy weather our shops were running out of everyday items the shelves were almost empty a few more days of snow and the shelves would of been empty and panick buying would of started.
so why do i prep, its an interesting hobby and i like to be independent, if the shtf then i wont be forced to go and steal from others which will be a none preppers only option.
i think one of the arts of prepping is to not get to involved in disaster scenarios and try to keep it realistic.

And there I think you’re hit the nail on the head, we do because we enjoy it
It gives us a sense of independence and self-reliance.
And maybe if we sat down and worked out the risks and all the odds of this happening or that happening, then we would all stay in bed and keep away from cars or any sort of fun. ((Except for the bed type) .
Like all things, moderation is best

That pretty much sums it up for me as wellcounsellor wrote:And there I think you’re hit the nail on the head, we do because we enjoy it
