Ive discovered that my workplace is a fantastic place for prepping finds. I work for a university and we have a lot of events and open days for big companies, some of the stuff they leave behind to be thrown away is unbelievable, purely because they only need it for the day. So far ive found a brand new and unused first aid kit in a carry/belt pouch( best find so far) rolls of duct tape 5 packs of balls of string. Even some of the things students leave behind is useful, birthday candles when they celebrate are always useful for survival tins. So I always keep my eyes peeled because i never know whem I'm going to find something helpful

Workplace finds! !!!!!!!
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, Give a man religion and he will starve to death waiting for God to feed him.

Hi DA
If something's genuinely abandoned, or actively thrown away (into a dustbin or a skip) I think its only right we should be able to repurpose it! I love skipdiving, I really do - one of my nicest finds was when a block of flats was being built locally, and they threw away a couple of dozen samples of granite - quite small, but perfectly formed, as the saying goes
Cardboard to mulch garden areas is another great one. Old bricks to form a boundary between the grass and the border, or even to make stepping stones inside the border, to stand on while weeding. Tin cans can do lots of things
I've used two of the catering size tins to make rocket stoves - my local chippie saved them for me, when I asked nicely
There's a lot of abandoned 2l plastic bottles - they need a good disinfection, of course, but they can be put by either for emergency water storage, or for use as filters.

Hi Arzosah
As they say one mans junk is another mans treasure and everything has an alternative use.

I've taken after my father for this sort of thing, he worked for the council and at one time was looking after the local tip so the access to skip finds was virtually limitless and pretty much anything and everything found its way home. Fast forward and I was in the building industry and doing just the same. I'm still doing it and probably will carry on till I end up being buried in a skip

I'm also guilty gents! My old man did the same looking at 'tat' and finding a use for it or turning it into something else. I'm forever 'finding' items and seeing an actual use; car boots are my latest bane especially with old tools I can practice sharpening and restoring!

Grenfell, I have images of Aladdins cave at yours! I must admit, on seeing a shop or bric-a-brac, I start rubbing my hands at what I can unearth!

Flea markets are a preppers paradise, you never know what your going to find. Usually I never know what it is I'm looking for until I find it.
