Q. What is a repeater?
A. A repeater is a device that will rebroadcast a radio signal or any signal it is designed to. So if your Baofeng UV5R cannot contact you group by selecting the appropriate repeater it will boost the range. It is basically a receiver and transmitter linked together. The receiver collects the signal which is then rebroadcast by the transmitter. The Repeater will be located on a local High spot possibly on top of a Radio mast, so it can collect signals and re-transmit them over a greater distance
