Location - exposed site from all directions, North northumberland.
Can any of you lovely people advise me what sort of polytunnel to look for.
I am concerned it will go 'wizard of Oz' just like the greenhouse, swing set and trampoline did one year!
Thanks

Re: PolyTunnels
We have 2 on our allotment that were made from scratch.
They compromise of scaffolding poles that have been knocked into the ground at 3 feet intervals with blue irrigation piping bent between them and secured at the ridge. If you can get hold of the materials it would be worth building it yourself before buying and would probably be more cost effective too.

Re: PolyTunnels
We live in a fairly exposed location and our polytunnel is quite robust. Ours has metal hoops and the most expensive polysheeting we could bear to buy. The end 'doors' rollup (we use wooden struts to strengthen the doors) rather than swing open and the sheeting is buried in a 2 foot trench round the sides. As the area is prone to high winds we planted hedging several feet from the tunnel to brake them and has so far been successful. Hope this is of some help, good luck!

I will run with that. Trench the plastic in and it will withstand all storms.Stasher wrote:We live in a fairly exposed location and our polytunnel is quite robust. If I was closer I'd happily lend a hand. Good luck with it

Re: PolyTunnels
I've done a few big ones.
With your situation, unless you've done it before and can mobilise a lot of help, pay the suppliers to install. There are good firms around who'll send a couple of big experienced lads with all the right kit who'll put it up properly. They'll let you dig the trench and learn as you go, so you can then help someone else. But a big polytunnel is not a 1-person, DIY, figure-it-out-on-the-day job.
Mind you, Danny's looks like a nice starter tunnel that could be done by one person.
