London prepper

Post by prepperP3 »

Hi all,

I've just joined this site today and have enjoyed reading some of the threads.

I've been prepping since 2001, although I live in a small one-bed London flat so my prepping supplies are only able to last for a maximum of four weeks. I simply don't have the storage space for anything more and I also believe that it is unlikely to take more than four weeks for normality to be resumed after any realistic scenario.

My prepping supplies consists of two large bug-out bags, 100L of water, two sleeping bags, two folding camp beds, two portable gas stoves, 12 gas cylinders, and enough food and medication for a month.

My partner recently introduced me to Doomsday Preppers - the US tv show, and I love it. It's all very extreme though. My prepping is not for a doomsday- type scenario, but is rather for any short- term disaster.

The idea of being prepared for any eventuality makes me feel safe, and I look forward to getting some good ideas from this site and meeting like-minded people.

Welcome to the forum.

After the events of July 2011 in London, having 4 weeks of supplies on hand is a good move. Good for you, its the short term issues that tend to happen more often and can still have a huge impact.

You are right about Doomsday preppers. Its designed by the producers to make fun of the people they film. If taken as purely entertainment, there is sometimes a useful nugget of info or an idea that can be gleaned from it. Plus, it has raised awareness a bit so not all bad :-)

Hello P3, welcome in :) I agree, its really important to prepare for likelihoods, and 4 weeks is a great space to be in.

With the bug out bags and camp beds, are you thinking getting out of your flat? And without being indiscreet, where would you go? I'm also in the southeast, tho not London (quite a few of us are) so I'm very conscious of the issues.

Hi there, and thanks for all the messages.
I guess the bug out bags and camping beds are for if it became necessary to get out of London in a hurry.

In terms of bug-out location, I was thinking of Epping Forest as it's the nearest forest to me.

Chorleywood is a good place for north Londoners. I did the Duke of Edinburgh there with my students.

Anyone have any other ideas?
