My sister has recently started prepping and just sent me this link: http://www.boobalou.co.uk/product-categ ... ily-cloth/
Abit too gross when toilet paper is available but maybe a good idea for long term preps. Any thoughts?
Toilet paper substitute

Buy more TP now.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.
Re: Toilet paper substitute
I've got a bookshelf with I'm guessing 800 + books. I was kind of thinking I could work my way through them as a viable alternative...? Starting with Sebastian foulkes's take on a James bond novel. Possibly in my top 10 worst books ever read list...

I have to admit it kind of surprises me that we haven't thought of this before, watching Ron Hoods outdoors videos they had what he called ass rags on trips in the wilds, but when you think about it, when it comes right down to it, and you're pushed for space, maybe it's not such a bad idea
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

There were a lot of threads about this at one stage

Re: Toilet paper substitute
I have a couple of TP rolls in my bag for immediate use. After those are used up I have a few of those 'J cloth' compressed towels each in it's own zip bag. After use, wash and seal in the bag for next time.
I also carry a nylon trowel for digging 'the' hole:

My prepping consists of bugging out by bicycle so any comments are likely to be based on that scenario.

Re: Toilet paper substitute
I can imagine in a SHTF situation it would be a good idea as no matter how much TP you store, you will eventually run out. Also, how would you dispose of your used TP if the water systems were not reliable? TP puts an awful lot of strain on the system as it is.
Admittedly, you would need reasonably clean water to clean them, but in this country it isn't impossible to find water even if you need to treat it yourself, and I would imagine that water used for washing oneself would still be clean enough to wash fabrics afterwards.
It's not for current-day use as by current standards it is quite a dirty practice.
I've looked on that website and now I'm imagining wiping my arse with unicorns.

Not keen on the idea. It's too tempting for people to rinse them in streams, contaminating drinking water for others.

There's always dock leaves for when the S hits the ground.

My own personal opinion is that I'd rather use a hand full of grass or moss. Can you imagine the state they'd be in after an upset stomach, sorry to be gross but it's a serious issue point.
