Preserving (Mackerel) fish?

Post by BlinkingCory »

Hiya all.
Spent the day angling today, great fun as always. Quite simply, we're inundated with Mackerel. Beyond freezing, is there a long term preserving option? We've pickled them before, but have been led to believe this is only good for six or so weeks? I don't know how to smoke fish, wish I did, but am I stuck to freezing them? They won't go to waste, everyone local can have some and the dog will eat well, but it would be nice to add some to the preps stock and to know what to do with them n the future.
Cheers

Do you have a BBQ with a lid?
Ideal quick smoker.

They say smoking kills, but it cures fish.
