If gold is now approximately 2 1/2 times 2016 price a pound is now worth 40p.

The Gold price remains fairly static it’s fiat currency that falls due to inflation.

Well I think that’s correct 🤔

If only we knew then what we know now, I would have lived on beans and bought as many precious metals as I could.

Hi the whole precious metal thing is new to me and I was wondering if someone could answer a few question. I'm only planning on getting a few silver coins as that's all I can afford.

On the RM website it says that the coins are CGT free due to being legal tender. Is this something that you worry about? The bullion by post best value coins show coins form other countries and I'm not sure if that should be avoided.

Also what kind of packaging to they arrive in and how do you store them. I assume I would want to keep them in mint condition but not sure if they are easily damaged?

Thanks for your help.

Coins are CGT free as they are also legal tender but I’m not sure about foreign coins.

New British silver coins also attract VAT at the point of purchase so be aware.

Personally I use https://atkinsonsbullion.com/ for my precious metals as I find them to be cheaper than Bullion by post.Mine either arrive in a hard plastic coin holder or soft plastic pouch in plain outer packaging by Royal Mail fully insured. The condition I think only really matters on the collectible stuff. If your just buying for investment on the value of the gold and silver then it shouldn’t matter.

As above, Atkinsons is my go to also

I started with silver as a means to barter then moved onto gold as a preservation of wealth,

Gold is CGT free.

I'm disappointed in the royal Mint Silver Britannias with their milk spots so swapped over to gold Britannias and Sovereigns in fractional sizes.

My coins are stored in capsules and tubes, gloves for the silver and 24 carat. The sovereigns I just handle and listen to the clink, afterall some are 130 years old.

As with all things tell only those you trust.

For me, word of mouth rather than will.

Thank you both for you quick reply. I'm going to bite the bullet and start collecting. It's only going to be the small stuff for now but better than nothing. :?
