Royal Navy Norgie Shirts. (Review)

Post by Citizen H »

Just had to mention what I got for Xmas and its a deffo 10/10 a great bit of kit.

x 2 for £14 inc P&P

•New Navy Blue Naval Issue Norwegian Army shirt top
•Lightwight naval issue top
•Nice AWD lightweight RN FR
•Genuine British Naval issue
•Navy blue in colour
•Superb Value
•Epaulets for rank if required (sewing mine flat to the shirt)
•Half zip up to top
•Button cuffs
•Roll neck top
•YKK zip

I need to mention that these are not like the traditional Norgie Army Jumpers they are more of a heavy Shirt so would be best used as part of a winter layer under a jumper. its also not a traditional Dark Blue more of an indigo blue or at least that's what my wife thinks,

To close, they are also fire retardant (follow washing instructions carefully to preserve this)

I've still got some of these, we wore them for a few years, there were 2 types, thick and thin ones, by the sound of it you have the thick ones which were better quality, the thin ones ripped pretty easily. I wouldn't get too bogged down by their nomex qualities, after a few washes they aren't really fireproof. They were fairly popular but were withdrawn and we went back to the old style 8's shirt although they called it a no. 4 shirt for some reason. Seeing as how you get more 'plus size' matelots than pongos you'll probably find plenty of larger sizes too.

I must be really old, I did 22yrs and that's the first time I've ever seen one!
Still wear my overalls, they've been a civvie for 9 years and still going strong.
I keep em in the car. Have seen prepping action 3 times they have. 2 flats and once put em on in winter when waiting for AA.

Off the top of my head they came in in the early noughties. They were the tops that came in the same time as the 8's trollies with the cargo pockets on the legs. The trollies stayed but we went back to the old 8's shirts (our gucci S/M nomex ones weren't being issued anymore either  ).
