Considering buying one - has anyone any views? - are Excaliburs models the only way to go or are cheaper Dehydrators work just as well, is it a false economy to buy a cheaper one?..anyone any experience of using them?

I have a small cheap one from westflia. it suits my needs and at just £35 its ideal.

It depends on what volume of stuff you are doing, how much power you want to spend (mine is just 250 watts) and what you want to use it for.

Excalibur dehydrators are more like family "ovens" for people who are heavily into the raw vegan diet. if that aint you then a smaller one would be ok.

HOWEVER I got bitten big time by a Andrew James dehydrator which didn't live up to expectation ONE BIT. make sure you get a guarantee so that you can claim back in case it is a monday morning or friday evening job.
