That’s made it clear .Thanks Andy. ;)
If your after something more substantial I'd look at something like this photonic isn't the cheapest but we all know what Chinese tat is like on the bay ;)

£70  but you get a decent panel (I've got 2 of these on the shed roof and they've been working fine now for about 5 years..

but it's not angled the best hence I double up)

Add a old car battery or a cheap caravan battery and you've got a decent reserve and power supply

I've got the slightly earlier charge controller but the new one has a inbuilt usb input

I'm sure you can source a random 12v car / leisure / tractor / golf buggy battery ;)
Cheers mate. My brother dabbles in caravan sales,so a leisure battery should be easy to source.

I've tried the cheapo 60w-100w solar kits with charger and run a meter over them and you might get 10w usually less but still fine for charging a powerbank sort of thing or hooked up to your car battery for a trickle charge sort of thing.

At around £30 its worth having as another gizmo in your kit.

I did buy another 50w panel and hence the cheap charge controller with the little panel but by the time I'd dropped £40 on the panel plus £20 on the charge controller / little panel. Then 8 on cable and terminal clamps plus some mc40 connectors £8. I'm already at more than that little kit ...

But I wanted a flexible panel as it's football resistant

The good Bosch 60w folder I've got with a charge controller puts out a good 4a on a bright day might put out more depending on the charge controller Vs the state of charging of the battery..

Well found my little China made usb meter ..

But it's blooming cloudy ..

The cheap "100w" China panel looked to be doing good showing 5 volts until I plugged in the Anker power bank then it dropped to
IMG_20220205_123105_253.jpg
No ampage no charge...

So tried the Lidl 14w and the cheap China "20w" panels they wouldn't even power up the tester ..

Most success was the 60w solar panel plus charger/ controller with the leisure battery

(Can't get to the wires to measure the panels input)

The 50w panel with the charge controller is taking in about 0.8a for comparison doesn't sound much but it's holding its own Vs usage

That's fascinating, Andy - what stands out immediately is that what's written on the box has very little to do with reality!

How would you go about charging rechargeable batteries in power cut. Is there no solar powered charger?
Not worried about powering the whole house, just eating hot food, getting a brew, seeing through the dark, and staying warm.
