Bleach shortage?

Post by British Red »

Recently over a number of weeks we've found that no local stores ( from Tesco to the co-op) have had any plain, thin, unscented household bleach in stock. They had limited amounts of the thick scented type but for our use ( sanitising brewing and livestock equipment, disinfectant etc) that's not suitable. Has anyone else tried to buy some in the last few weeks?

We stocked up no problem from Sainsbury's last week. Didn't seem like there was any issues here. Based in Sheffield.

Thanks, likely a local issue then, but covered several chains. Got some in the end but it was curious

Sainsburys and Morrisons stock thin bleach. Tesco stopped doing it first lockdown. I use it it for brewing too.

My local Sainsbury only ever has half a dozen thin bleach ,and I usually buy them all!

Our little used to do gallon cans for 89p. Perfect. Managed to get a few 5 litre bulk cans ( farm supply shops are awesome) but still irritating

Do you have a janitorial supplier near you? They usually sell the 5l containers of standard thin bleach along with all the other bulk cleaning supplies a prepper may need.
I no longer store large amounts of bleach myself. If I dont use it fairly promptly, bleach will degrade into salt water. I have been trying the Sainsbury's bleach tablets but they will degrade too given time.

Janitorial no but we have agricultural suppliers who sorted me out. Great places. We use bleach regularly for cleaning down chicken coops, livestock equipment etc. Obviously we keep proper virucidal disinfectants for (Virkon-s etc.) for the footbaths and wheel washes but basic bleach is good for simple sanitising.
