Mainstream?

Post by Appin »

This list for a grab bag comes from the Cheshire Resilience Forum ie a government/ local authority/ Police etc etc website. https://cheshireresilience.org.uk/

It is their recommended contents for a grab bag. The list itself is nothing special. The fact that is sitting on a mainstream official website is of more interest. It's actually been there for ages and is nothing to do with current problems. The 3 days supply of food and water is unusual for this kind of advice.

"Emergency Grab Bag

An emergency could happen at any time. An Emergency Grab Bag is a useful kit packed with essentials in case you have to evacuate.

It will need to be easily found by all family members, and should be checked every six months. A backpack or a small suitcase with wheels will be suitable, and could include the following items:

Copy of your Household Emergency Life-Saving Plan (HELP)
First aid kit and medication
Copies of important family documents in a waterproof bag
Prescription medication
Cash and Credit Cards
Car Keys
Toiletries and sanitary supplies
Mobile phone and charger
Infant supplies
Spare clothes
A battery torch with spare batteries or a wind up torch
A battery radio with spare batteries or wind up radio
Bottled water and emergency food, enough for three days
Childcare supplies or other special care items
Extra set of house and car keys"

Interesting. The government web page for disaster preparedness links to that. I was trying to find a government page I saw ages ago that talked about keeping several days food and water, but I couldn't find it. Maybe it was US govt, the CDC has a page like that. Anyway I went full circle back to that Cheshire one.
I keep everything I might need handy, ready to go, including important documents. Even in day to day life I like to always know where my wallet and keys etc are. They are always in the same place. I guess that's prepper ABC.

I wear combat style trousers with cargo pockets for work, which is most of my life :( Along with my other clothes for work, they are in the same place at night containing wallet ,phone,Everyday Carry. My keys are on the top step of the stairs at night. Incidentally, most of that list in the first post,I’ve got in me pockets
