Ear Protection

Post by hazmat »

We've covered eye protection but what about your ears?
High levels of noise is debilitating, stops you thinking straight, and tires you out over a long period.

Take the humble ambulance siren. One drives past you with it's sirens going. Loud isn't it?
Now put yourself in a situation where there are lots of ambulances, fire engines, and police all screaming round.
Add the noise of disaster (roaring fires, explosions, collapsing buildings and the screams) it's all too much for the average Joe i.e. ME!.

I was surprised how many times over the last couple of years I've had to get the ear plugs out (3).

I carry simple ear plugs in my EDC but I've also got a fold up pair of ear defenders in my BOB.

Not a bad idea, especially if you are trying to bed down. I have one of those eye masks they give you on planes in my BOB. Might have to have a kip in the day.

Be lucky (and don't sleepwalk)
