Well to prove it never rains but It pours just had dinner little miss goes up to her room to chat with her mate on her phone.. took pots out sat on the sofa having a paw patrol sub marine rammed into my shins / feet chest ....
Squeal from upstairs and little miss comes down shouting dad my bedroom is on fire!
Well instant oh sh1t moment told the kids to get out and went to investigate as I got half way up the stairs the RCD killed the lighting circuit and the smoke alarm in her room kicked into life ..
Top of the stairs grabbed the firexo extinguisher and the attached Nebo big Larry stuck to the bottom turned on...
The Larry was a bloody blessing dark nights no lighting bar the white escape light led in the smoke detector ..
Room door was still open I shut other doors as I crossed the landing
Pulled the pin and NOTHING bar a splutter fecking thing did nothing there's going to a angry email fired off once I've calmed down .......
Dropped it on the floor no good fretting plan B the bigger 3 litre Afff extinguisher in the master bedroom as well you spend a lot of time in there
Grabbed it and I'll call it muscle memory by this point melted bits of lampshade were dripping onto the floor (well by floor her new winter coat that was dumped teenagers eh!)
Tackled the lamp / shade first snuffed it out quickly enough then took on the coat again quick puff of foam all was good the gauge is still in the green but obviously it'll be replaced ...
came out the room shut the door got downstairs and by this point little miss was In a full blown tizz with herself didn't know how to work her own phone in the state she was in so I called it in to the fire service who were great with the kids
They checked the attic for any burning that nothing had spread
And took the old light fitting down and left it safe
2 fire engines and half the street out for a look...
Then the wife pulls up from work...
Spent the past hour scrubbing the ceiling down will be no evidence of the fire after a lick of fresh paint tomorrow
I need a beer

Well at 13 she's discovered what fight of flight is and how the come down makes you feel shit
Little man is a hero / fireman in his own little world
I'm currently pricing up a new extinguisher apparently the wife is going to contact firexo about their failed unit not me apparently can't think why
Fetched a spare out the zombie stores to provide cover upstairs...
Least with foam bar the smoke there's no collateral damage as had that been a powder extinguisher it'd have been an insurance claim and a heck of a lot of vacuuming

Glad all were safe and you had the preps and training to see it through.
Pretty bad on the dud equipment.

Tell me about it not the time you want a failure... Gauge was green , (strangely I checked it less than a week ago and can say with confidence all was in order I do the monthly checks at work and trained by the service agent how to check ) never been tampered with as in well out of reach of the kids and I broke the tamper seal myself
tonight and only 6 months or so old I've the receipt in my Screwfix account
Least the Thomas glover (chubb) unit worked perfectly

That's the one just a shame trading standards isn't like it used to be where you don't have to balls about with citizens advice there was something very wrong I'm guessing that the pick up tube inside isn't attached securely to the valve head ... For the past 5 years I've escorted the fire extinguisher service guy around site and he explained what's what when doing servicing / refills ....
Half of me just says go throw it on the counter at Screwfix and get a refund and draw a line under it... Other half of me wonders how many might be faulty ..

Was a bit but training / experience stands for a lot I've been fire warden/ marshall at the current workplace and prior one so not my first camping trip so to speak I've spent many a cold winter morning stood outside spirting water / foam / powder/ co2 at a fire demonstration rig on a trailer and dealt with some big ISH fires at work

Re: House fire
Crikey. So what caused the fire? I gather it was a lampshade that caught fire? What caused it to set on fire now?
I've had a couple of warnings recently. First was I noticed a slight noise sometimes just after switching the kettle on. I looked at the plug and there was a bit of melting. Got a new kettle.
Second was, I was charging some old AAs I found. One started hissing. Chucked all three out (in recycling).
I had to chuck one of those smoke alarms that has a light recently, it kept chirping even with a new battery and thorough vacuuming. It was fairly new, just over a year old. My bedroom one did the same, but that was ok after vaccing.
