If I were you I'd forget CB and get a couple of Baofengs; yes, officially, you need a license (I wouldn't advocate transmitting without one) but the foundation course is pretty easy and can be done remotely.

Thanks Rik, I have been wanting to do this for some time so have now ordered the foundation course manual. I am feeling a little stagnant at the moment and need to expand my knowledge in general. I alaready have a handheld Baofeng which I have attempted to use to listen in with little success, I am guessing it really is not a good one. I was an irregular CB user pre 1981 and wouldnt mind another CB radio too.

I was on CB in Brighton in the 80s and it was buzzing, always lots of people on air, meets etc.
I've listened on the bands here now and there's nothing on CB and very little on licensed frequencies. I often have my handheld tuned to the local repeater and the only thing I've heard is old geezers talking about radio.
I did the Foundation in Lockdown and found it very easy but I have been into electronics as a hobby for years and worked on radio transmission systems for work.
