Loving the bungalow but I believe a squirrel has taken residence in the loft space
It decided to run up the inside of the wall put clogs on and dance on the ceiling till stupid o clock I nearly had a bloody heart attack
I got the big girl knickers on and in dressing gown boots and a torch in my mouth got the telescopic ladders out at 3 am climed up moved the loft board..shone the torch round hoping it wasn't a massive rat dancing ..there are loads squirrels here though and didn't see what it was ..then i perched with night vision goggles on ..I looked a right twit
Saw some droppings large ones so not mice ..more likely squrrel ..( still don't wanna imagine massive rat )
Someone coming after 1 to go inspect but reading up if I catch the little sod while still having my fingers its illegal to re release grey squirrels
Have to kill them humanely apparently hit them on the head with a shovel ... among other things...
Anyone had any experience of hitting our destructive furry little friends on the head ?? ... I suppose if the shtf and I had to be self sufficient then it'd be made into a pair of gloves but so far I havent needed to do that
Mk 4 fenn trap and window trug wide enough abd high enough for the set trap to snap shut across the width of the trug.
.this optimises lethality as side on it can catapult the vermin rather than get a clean neck breaking kill ..
But first your furry friend is like a toddler scared of new things so put the box and trap set but held open by the little hook safety catch in the loft with a few (half dozen or so ) nuts near by..... after a couple of days add some peanut butter to the trap treadle plate and leave unset with the only nuts now just inside the window box...
So before long they'll take the peanut butter
At this point you've got their attention stop feeding nuts and stick with the peanut butter another day till it goes....
Now for the art of cunning so far you've gained a bit of trust
Now the temptation is to now send it live but a couple more days trust me they are bloody quick...
Instead arm the trap and set the brass treadle pin but also leave the safety on so when they dislodge it... it'll go CLICK and move a bit as the safety catch catches it... first few times they'll jump and back off.... after another couple of days fattening it up.
Bait set cover and safety off

it'll be that used to the routine and trap going click it'll hardly flinch .... well till it's brown bread it'll die with a full belly ..... and quickly
Pictures are rotated turn your head
This is how to set

Beware these will break fingers if used wrong they make your average rat trap look like a fisher price toy...
If used outdoor they must be protected from none target animals and pets
