Candles
Candles
I buy a couple of non scented pillar candles every month with my supermarket shop and realised a couple of months ago that my supplies have completely run out as I like to sit by candlelight of an evening. I found some from that Swedish shop beginning with I, which were cheaper so ordered a dozen and they have been rubbish. Burned down really quickly and did not last at all. Where do people normally buy candles from which are decent quality? There is an "antique" shop down the road which is selling church candles which I am tempted to buy as I am guessing they will last a bit longer. I have plenty of tealights and dinner candles for emergencies but need to stock up on pillar candles sharpish.

Re: Candles
Morrisons have a tinned scented range that have been reduced to 75p each. I'm burning Caramel Latte atm
burn time approx 16 hours.
burn time approx 16 hours.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.
Re: Candles
I’ve been making my own UCO 9 hour candles from moulds. Though I haven’t worked out the cost per candle.

Re: Candles
I’ve never tried the paraffin attachment. What’s the burn time and brightness like?

Re: Candles
Most of the candles I use nowadays I mould or dip myself..... Mind you, I'm a re-enactor and Period style candles are stupid money.
Are your pillars totally consumed or have you got the stubs left? Because I'd do some recycling if I had scrap wax available.
Not all bought candles are the same, Stearic acid percentage and wax blend can change burn time, brightness and several other things. Sometimes the budget end shops will switch suppliers so quality will change.

Thanks for the link. I do have quite a lot of stubbs which I saved with the intention of melting and reusing, I just havent quite got round to it, perhaps I should.ForgeCorvus wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 6:16 pm Are your pillars totally consumed or have you got the stubs left? I visited in a city recently so didn’t pay any shipping but they seem to have a website. More expensive pillar candles than your aforementioned shop but also longer burn time (10 hours more) and quality is good. Just thought I’d mention it …

6hrs claimed but that's optimal. Out in the woods "with wind and movement" I'd say 4.5 hrs
I use it as a site marker rather than a reading light.
