I find home bargains ones ok
I know little about candles and have very few 'ordinary' ones and a hundred or so tea-lights.

Today I saw a big fat candle about a foot tall in Home Bargains for £5.99 Is that the sort of thing that would give me good value for money, especially if I saved and re-used any unburned wax with some new wicks?

Is the biggest problem with candles uneven burning and dribbling.

The biggest issues with candles is if they're under wicked (which isn't likely with commercial made ) or putting them in a draft.... If a candle gutters you need to move it.

Recycle stubs as a matter of course

Goes without saying but place on a level surface away from flammable items too.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Yep, a few years ago there were a couple of house fires the made the local news. One was started by putting tealights on top of the TV and the other a couple of weeks later by doing the same thing to a stereo unit.... Common Sense isn't

Who'd think a aluminium cup holding a flame might melt through a piece of plastic

Think it's fair to say common sense is just about dead :o

Remember years back jansman saying about his neighbour burning the bathroom out with a candle...

It's that time of year when the days are drawing out so the solar room lights are coming back into their own

Got a solar light in the hall it was still lit at 23:30 when I went to bed

It's also worth mentioning that candle wax on fire should be treated as a oil fire (b class) and never attempt to extinguish using water it'll take your eyebrows off at the very least
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

I'll also mention that if you're melting wax use a Bain Marie, double pan or a jam jar in a pot of boiling water..... The flash point of wax is higher then 100C.
I've seen wax flash fire and its worse then a chip pan.

Stumbled across pillar candles today in Tesco reduced from £3.75 to £1.25 - there was a whole shelf of them - bought a load but not ‘all of them’ by any means as didn’t want to be seen to be ‘stockpiling’ and wanted to leave plenty for others. No idea why no-one bought them- they were unscented and grey - perfect to me as we hate the smell of scented candles and couldn’t care less what colour they are. Planning a return visit soon … bloody love a bargain!

"I'm helping out with a friend's wedding" is a useful cover story

Other good ones include
"Its for the Cubs/Scouts/DofE"
"Its great set dressing"
"I'm taking this lot to a foodbank/dining club/soup kitchen"

And the ultimate for dealing with nosey parkers
"I want it/them for a LARP event"...... Especially if you can then start to bend their ear about your forthcoming game and have a companion hussle you away with the words "Don't bore people with that!"

I don't like candles. Too risky. Never leave one unattended. I do have a bag of the tea light ones, for prep only. But I prioratise torches.

Perhaps test burn one before buying more, might be a reason they're discounted....
